why do we think we can change it ???or slow it down?? when you mess with nature in general the outcome is not great at all , and we as humans do it everyday .example we drive ,we fly, we watch t.v. ,eat processed foods that are made in highly pollutent plants, talk on the phone, etc, etc. all these things plus more to make our lives easier , but the real issue is we are not supposed to be doing any of these we were given things to be able to live when we came about , so there fore we have messed with nature . we are just animals placed here belive it or not and our egos have made us belive we are supperior among everything, and can do and change what we want ,however what we have done, or not have has made us to belive we can change or minamize global warming .However we can't and we as well as all animals will reap what we have sewed.

what is your opnion on global warming???

  1. I'm not highly concerned with it because it's a long term problem, and I have more immediate issues to deal with. Most of us probably should be more concerned, but it's really not in our nature. Sorry.

  2. The processes in action are anything but natural especially Human development

We can do an immense amount about deforestation, .desertification, air pollution, soil and water contamination.irresponsible and wasteful utilization of bio resources, destructive and non sustainable agriculture ,Bad design in Urban development ,destructive ways of getting energy and so on.

animals and plants obey Natures laws.

there always exists equilibrium or balance

of all species within the Environment .

    Following the law of harmony

If one specie gets out of line ,

like over abundant ,excessive a plague ,

Nature responds with predators ,disease, lower birth rates maybe even natural disasters. This applies to all Flora and Fauna

    Humanity ignores Natures laws,

breeds outside of the norms of equilibrium

and destroys habitat of other species replacing it with our own UNNATURAL HABITAT

So our progression can never be called a NATURAL DEVELOPMENT

We could be called an unchecked virus or even a parasite beyond control

if one were to see this planet from space with time frames of some years in between .And see the changes to the earth`s surface

There is a series that you can download easy ,called

    bbc,Planet earth by David Attenborough.

    About 15 ---700mb videos

this is a photographic team that has been filming Nature stories all over the world ,for a very long time .

In 3 of the episodes called --the future--saving species(this one covers extinction and the importance of species)

the future--living together ,ice worlds ,

they compare films they made before of places and species to what they are filming now in the same places.

Many scientists give commentaries as well .

Whole migrations of animals involving millions have disappeared in only 20 years,

in one place in the tundras ,in just 5 years .

    Ice sheets,glaziers have gone

They say about half of the worlds forests have gone in the last 300 years

Half of the natural habitats, like wetlands , ice fields tundras, mountain vegetation and rain forests . in the last 50 years, and all of the inhabitants with it

Global warming is a component in a group of destructive forces at work ,it is not the only one , but other factors which we are responsible for ,are rapidly making it the worst .

We are now witnessing a mass Extinction of animals and plants of Biblical proportions, equal since the disappearance of the dinosaurs. in the last 50 years over 3000 species have gone into extinction

If we want to save ourselves as a specie ,we have to address

    the problems

Apparently we can correct most of the destructive factors

with disciplines ,changes of attitude and habits, alternative energies ,sustainable design etc.

All species are in Danger eventually, and each is important because all of Life on this planet is interrelated even if it is not obvious

Imagine that the Eco system is a wall and each specie is represented by a brick

Every brick taken out weakens the wall ,and eventually it will collapse ,which brick is the most important ???

they are all important and we are one of the bricks

To say we can do nothing is simply not true

If we can stop the momentum of global Warming is indeed doubtful ,(and there is a natural element involved)

Especially with the view how uncooperative Humanity is within itself .

So many cannot  act because of poverty

    immediate survival being the priority

And so many do not care or have other Agenda`s

But WILL not or CAN not is not the same thing

  3. The best way to reduce or slow global warming is to think the way you do.  Just imagine theres no answer.  It's how we solved all the other problems in the world.  Cheers to you for being so imaginative and determined to make changes you are just what is needed.  BTW your not in the minority most people think like you so you don't really have to argue your dim view.

  4. eh, he earth has only heated up like 2 degrees. Global warming isn't even a problem. We don't even know if this warming of the earth is just a cycle earth goes through. Or if it will get hotter and hotter until earth is cast to h**l.

  5. We stopped putting CFC's into the air.

We've stopped putting lots of nasty chemicals into the environment.

Doing so has brought the American Bald Eagle back from the brink of extinction.

Because of this new threat... so many great changes are going to be brought forth that will change much of the way we look at the world.

It's easy to feel the way you do... however... in forty years you will look back and realize you were wrong. It's ok. We all make mistakes.

  6. Dear d,

    This is Zork.

I am an alien from another galaxy. We are here to help Earthlings and save planet Earth from destruction. Your question  is very negative. It depresses me and we aliens are never depressed. Basically, you have given up on the human species. You are not simply animals, despite the fact you are not as advanced as we are. There are things about your species that we love, such as hip hop music, Mozart, Van Gough, Matisse, and we absolutely  think Nicola Tesla was an Earthing genius of humongous proportions. Earthlings are special species because you have the ability to create and reason. However you are not thinking clearly. Whatever has you down, we are glum. We also like Al Gore and he has a saying that one person can make a difference. By taking the time to write this question, you are actually concerned about your planet. You can make a difference too. Lack of education and ignorance is humans' worst enemy. If you study Easter Island you will understand that respecting nature, and loving nature is the only way to advance your species. Even though you live a short life in comparison to us, what you do each day can make a difference for generations to come. Earthling, d, we love you.

  7. the ozone hole over the antarctic (and the arctic as well, but not as large) are contracting.

    we humans messed up.

    and we're fixing it.

so obviously we can fix mistakes that we make.

the first link describes the science.

the 2nd link shows the progress we've made.

global warming is a far greater challenge.

clearly if we stopped burning coal and oil, warming would continue for several decades, but will eventually slow down.

within the next few decades, we'll essentially run out of oil.

at that point, there will be an interesting contest to decide whether coal or nuclear will provide the majority of our electricity.

however, i suspect that since the US is the only major stumbling block, it will be much sooner that the world will make some more significant progress on the problem.

as for those who say it's not a problem, it'd be good to keep in mind that it was 6 degrees cooler during the last ice age.

seems it doesn't take much termperature change to produce a dramatic climate difference.

the "God intended it" crowd really annoys me.  i note that when they get sick, they go see the doctor.  when they break a leg, they go get it set.  i've yet to hear a single one say, "God intended that i break my leg, and i don't want to fix it against God's will."

or, for the "There have always been climate changes" group, keep in mind that today, something like 7% of all people who have ever lived on this planet, in the last couple million years, are alive today.  the ability of this planet to support the human species is being tested today like it has never been tested before.  maybe by any species since the dinosaur extinction.

clearly the problem can be fixed.  just eliminate the CO2 we're adding to the atmosphere.  the question is, when will we do that?  we will.  it's only when that's in question.  and, of course, how much damage will be done?

will the lack of food and water trigger wars sufficiently disasterous to destroy our technological civilization, dooming the human species to spend the remainder of it's days on earth in stone age conditions?

one last fact, if there is a sufficiently distructive war, it will be impossible to rebuild our technological society.  coal, oil, iron ore, etc used to be found at, or very near the surface of the earth.  that's no longer the case.  and without them,  the bow and arrow will be the high-tech weapon.

oh, and have a nice day.

  8. I doubt we can do anything about global warming. It might be as God intended it. I agree we and everything else on this earth contribute. I do believe we should take care of the earth as  best we can, but we are deluding ourselves if we think we can change global warming.  conserve energy, cleanup the earth, quit polluting our atmosphere,  Yes to all these things...but it's not going to stop the green house effect. I hear the sun is in a cooling trend that might help.

  9. i agree with what u r saying, although it's a little harsh, but ask yourself, would u give the luxuries you have right now and become an "animal"? (no offense), making human's life easier and better isn't a crime, the crime is that we neglected mother nature not for too long but too harsh. however things are being done right now. (not sayin there is no room for improvement, in fact, there is alot more room for improvement.). especially in developed countries. iceland is using ground heat to produce energy for the entire country. and many other european nations are doing things that help the environment. and i, as a high student right now, keeps on telling everyone recycle. and even recycle isn't enough. repair your broken stuff rather than just replace it. that way we'll produce less garbage to dump in the garbage dump. don't waste food, water etc. be a good human being, and mother nature won't strike back... as harsh... we can only hope and pray. i really appericate ur question. it really made feel like there are other people who cares about this world we living in right now. thank you and good luck

  10. We can't stop it, but we can slow it down.

Unless you think the 1800 top scientists at the National Academy of Sciences are ignorant?  I don't.
