  1. i think its stupid and it wont last because you have to buy a special tv for it and that will get expensive. there is nothing wrong with dvds

  2. Yes Blu-ray is the next thing. No it won't be anytime soon. Why? Cost, poor market penetration, and standard DVDs don't look all that bad.

  3. DVDs have been out for well over a decade.  They would still be the standard if not for HDTV.  A new format was needed to meet HD audio and video needs as well as answer DVDs insufficient capacity issues.  HD-DVD and Blu-Ray were two possible solutions.  HD-DVD threw in the towel earlier this year, so that leaves us with Blu-ray.  Blu-ray can easily handle the highest video format 1080p, as well as 7.1 loss-less audio, not to mention holding 50GB in 2 layers.  I don't foresee a need for another format any time soon.  Yes, DVDs will play in a BD player.  No, Bluy-ray discs will not play in a DVD player.

In case you haven't heard, and I don' know how you coudn't have, stations stop braodcasting analog in Q1 09.  All shows are moving to digital, as yes, HD.  Standard definition TV's are being phased out.  Sooner or later, you will own an HDTV.  Blu-ray isn't some gimick to separate you from your money, it's progress.

By the way, get ready for a price drop for BD players in about a month.
