Question:

Are we too lax on cell phone usage while driving?

Its a proven fact no one ( male or female) can drive a car as safely while on a cell phone so why do we tolerate it? How about a $5000 fine and 10 day in jail if caught talking on a cell with a child in the car? Really, your judgement is impaired just like being drunk, so arent you endangering a child????

  1. First, let's get rid of radios in police and other emergency vehicles. It's the same thing, you're being distracted by the conversation, not the device in your hand. Don't forget about the truck drivers, either. They almost always have a CB radio in their trucks. Keep in mind, police vehicles also have computers on board. They'd have to get rid of theirs before they call tell us not to use ours.

  2. Its just a matter of time, soon every state will ban this and I hope that it is sooner than later.......

I also agree with the fine and maybe then everyone will start paying attention.

It seems statistics show over 2,600 people were killed in cell phone-related auto accidents last year.

These cell phones have caused thousands of people to crash their collective cars into one another, wreaking havoc and leaving bloodstains all over the otherwise pristine interstates.

Your site that proves drinking and cell phones are the same is at ( http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/ )

  3. yes

  4. Yes,  we are very much too lax.

But getting meaningful legislation and enforcement would not be politically expediant,   so our officials would rather count bodies than see lives saved.

    UCANTCME,    thanks for the link.

  5. Agree with the fine, $5000 is a little steep for a first offense, but it's definitely dangerous. Both drinking alcohol, and talking on a cell phone take focus away from the task at hand.

  6. Yes, we are to lax, what we or someone should do  is put something in the cell phone that shuts it off when you are in a moving car, truck, bus, or what ever. Worst invention of the 21st century.

  7. As impaired as being drunk? Can you provide a sight that has the statistics proving this? I haven't seen one yet. Is this your own opinion on the subject? I have seen where it is a major distraction, but it doesn't impair your ability to function, while driving, as drinking does.
