  1. Never have been never will be.  We are a representative republic.

If we were truly a democracy, we would not have a Congress, and every issue would have to be put to a vote by the people.

  2. I assume you mean the US?

Yes, it's a democracy.  It's a representative democracy, not a direct one.  You'll get some people who say "We're not a democracy; we're a republic!" as if the two are mutually exclusive.  In the US, people typically call a representative democracy a republic, and a direct democracy a democracy.  But historically and internationally, a democracy is any form of rule by the people, and a republic is a government without a monarch.  So, the UK is a democracy but it's not a republic.  North Korea is a republic but it's not a democracy.  The US would be both.

  3. No, the United States is and always has been a

    Representative Republic.

Which means you vote for Representatives to act on your behalf.

A Democracy is basically majority rules.

  4. Never were. We are a 'representative republic'. Not a lot of difference. Unfortunately, our representatives are not representing the people.

A true democracy is majority rule. Representative is superior -provided they vote according to the people they represent. Of course, they don't.

Representative is superior in that the heavily populated areas (generally major cities) would control all votes. Those who live in some areas of the country, such as east and west coast and big city, have very different opinions, outlook on life and interests than the largest area of the country located outside those areas.

  5. Yes!

  6. nope, we are being diluted, in every sense by muslims and in about  50 years they will be ruling half the world...time to slap them down!!

  7. after cheating in our elections already two times both republicans, bush handling matters like a dictator king not US president, faking and lies, it make me think twice, what happened to our country if it continues we will be just like IRAQ before 9/11,

  8. NO we need to turn communist

  9. No.

For instance, the vast majority of people in Britain (70% and upwards usually) favour the death penalty for certain crimes. The politicians continually reject this. You therefore have the wishes of the majority ignored in Parliament, and the wishes of the minority reign. That is not democracy, that is oligarchy.

  10. Yes and No?  The "unity" of Government and Freedom is a natural paradox.  We instill a governments to take some of our rights and freedoms so that it can protect our rights and freedoms.

  11. true democracy requires full transparency. that would likely be impossible in a large country.. We are living in a system where the rich makes the rules.

  12. No. We're supposed to be a Constitutional Republic.  People are uneducated and don't know the difference, so the term 'democracy' gets thrown around incorrectly.

  13. Nope, we are a Corporate Oligarchy that masquerades as a Democratic Republic to keep the sheep in line.

  14. Yes

  15. i guess you can say no since electoral college votes for the president.  but you can say yes since we vote for our representatives.  I'm gonna say in the truest sense of the word---no.

    I love the USA

  16. We have always been an oligarchy that pretends to be a republic.

  17. Yes we are. Maybe the electoral stuff is complicated but other than that, we are democratic nation. As long as we can impeach a president, Americans have the last voice. Remember. No nation is like us.
