  1. There are many more Psychologists and Sociologists today, but it seems that this is what society is demanding. If there are positions available, then it is a useful subject to learn and will frequently be the stepping stone to another career path. I come from a scientific and medical background, but have found that a psychology degree is equally well accepted and respected.

  2. I think in general the western world is becoming more and more concerned about our general state of being - be that in terms of pyschology or social structures.  As cultural symbols have become more and more difficult to appropriate in authentic ways in a increasingly confusing minefield of symbollic landscapes from which to negotiate, in increasingly gloablized ways, it starts to get more and more confusing.

Popular forms of psychology and sociology seem to begin to address this confusion we experience, so we get TV programmes such as Wife Swap, or Super Nanny, or ridiculous talk shows like Trisha (I don't actually have a TV so I can't name more, but every time i see one there seems to be some utter pscho/socio babble on it).  And certainly I can see how the increase in this popular versions of real analysis seem to be gaining stead.

So, I don't think the world's getting full of psychologists and sociologists, but i think that the wider dominant culture is becoming more concerned about social scientific discourses as the cultural world we inhabit becomes more confusing and difficult to negotiate.

  3. Not everyone. But I think we need more of these people because the world is getting more crazy.

Lol, I have been thinking about being a psychologist because I have strong interest in this field, since I always think and analyze about everything all the time. Also, I love giving advice to people and helping people.

  4. I am studying Sociology and Psychology and they are very interesting but I'm not sure they solve anything!

I think it these subjects are becoming more valid because people believe in them more nowadays, and these are the industries where there are jobs. There are hardly any jobs in technology any more.

  5. No. I think life and survival is becoming more challenging and complex and people is just trying to cope by knowing the theory behind everything. The world is not about instinct anymore. It;s all about explanation and reason. People think by knowing everything, they would be able to cope and adabt accordingly. But psychology is nothing without knowing the path AND walking the path...that's the problem. A psychologist can only fascilitate. It is up to the patient to help him/herself

  6. Psychology and sociology are becoming more complex too! They are other types of sciences after all. Some people have a gift for such jobs and I don't think people will turn to those disciplines for the sake of making thier lives easier.

What matters is your ability to discover your true occupation. And patience to grow and learn. If a person who works as a painter decides that he wants to be an  astronaut because he heared they earn more money than artists, he is unlikely to achieve anything. So it really depends on the individual's willingness to stick with their ideals.

To conclude, I don't see that kind of trends in people's career choices.

  7. They are very soft options to study, all the thick students do them as there are just so many answers to a question. Most of them are valid as well. I knew one very thick feminist girlie who did her dissertation on "The sexuality of meat, how meat oppresses women" There is no answer to stupidity that profound is there?

  8. Are you saying they're the easy option for people who want a science degree but don't fancy making the extra effort required to study physics or chemistry? I think you're right to a certain degree, people are always going to take the path of least resistance. In a lot of cases it's having a degree that matters, not the subject.

  9. They ceate a dependency, they make money out of the gullible and depressed.  People run off to quickly to an authority to solve their problems wether it be a teacher, psychologist, guru, or God.  We have lost the ability to learn, enguire and to work out our own problms.  Soon people will be going to see their phychologist to find out if they should ware their red or blue dress to the ball!
