Are we using military units to deliver aid to Georgians so if they are attacked we have a reason to go to war?

I think its a pretty smart move. The Russians keep claiming to pull back but for some reasons things keep blowing up. So by using military units to deliver aid to the Georgians it would be a big warning sign to the Russians. I mean if they attack that would be considered a direct act of war against the US.

  1. No were are using air force because they have big enough aircraft to deliver the aid the C5

  2. yeah thats all the US needs is to be involved in another war especially with Russia. Not a smart move.

  3. What is a humanitarian mission?

The traditional roles of a nation’s military are to defend the nation’s borders against enemies, and to prepare to wage war when necessary.  The U.S. military has seen a dramatic increase in the number of missions that service members have participated in, and in the number of nations to which they have been deployed.

While the use of the U.S. military is increasing, the traditional roles of fighting wars and protecting the nation’s borders have been augmented by what are broadly known as humanitarian missions. Such missions are also known as Operations Other Than War (OOTW) or Strategic and Sustainment Operations (SASO).  Each mission is likely to have unique features, based on factors such as geography, climate, the population being served,  and the local infrastructure.

However, there are features that are common to many humanitarian missions:

Most humanitarian missions are undertaken in response to a humanitarian emergency.

A humanitarian emergency is defined as a crisis involving a large population for whom the local government is unable to meet basic needs, either due to disruption or displacement.

Humanitarian emergencies are generally brought on by one or more specific events, such as war, famine or natural disaster.

Natural disasters: These are unpredictable, sudden climatic or geologic events.  Some populations have greater vulnerability to such events due to overpopulation and weak infrastructure.  Examples include earthquakes or hurricanes.

Technological Disasters: These include release of nuclear, chemical, or biological toxins. This may be accidental (e.g., Chernobyl nuclear reactor, Bhopal India chemical plant), or intentional, as a terrorist act (e.g., Tokyo subway release of Sarin nerve gas, Federal building bombing in Oklahoma City).

Complex Emergencies: These are the result of war or civil strife, typically involving displacement of many people from their homes, heavy damage to infrastructure, and continuing risks to personal safety. In recent years, more civilians have been killed and injured in war than have soldiers. Some are refugees, who leave their own country as a result of war, violence, or fear of persecution. Others are classified as displaced persons, since they stay within their own nation’s borders, but leave their homes. An example of a complex emergency is the continuing violence in the Balkans.

  4. that is not how it works. they could shoot our troops and we could still not go to war. and besides, Russia is a big country...only!!  they are very weak though.

  5. no its not a smart move. its exactly another reason to start a war.

and worse yet. it looks like another reason to start a World War.

IT has the exact makings of World War 1.

In Wolrd War Bosnia and Serbia went to war with Austria and Hungary went to war. Germany was and ally with Austria-Hungary. So Germany got puled into the war. Great Britian said if Germany went to war they would take Bosnia and Serbia's side. And then we backed up Great Britain.

Then we beat Hungary, Austria, and Germany. And made them pay war damages. Which they started circulating lots of money. Which litteraly made the money worthless. So Germans had to eat sawdust. (They were that poor) So some 20 years later Adolf Hitler came to power.  Wanting to become a world power. and payback for a horrible childhood. So Germany invaded the NEtherlands. we did nothing. then they took over Denmark. still we did nothing. then they took over Poland that when Great Britian finally realized they have to do somewthing before Germany conquers us. Then the Germans tried to conquer Russia. (USSR) Bad idea on their part. Russia got into the war too. We were the smart ones by staying out of  until Japan bombed our Pearl Harbor. Then we got into it. Then we bombed JApan with the A-Bomb. Whcih snet us and Russia into a Nuclear Arms Race for 50 years.

So no. we dont want to be in this situation. It will send us into another 100 year old war.

  6. Only the Hospital Ship and cargo Ships are allowed in to provide Aid.

If we came in we would sneak in through Turkey.

    Good Question though

  7. It could be, but they could also say it was a "mistake" or "error" and promise to punish those involved....and most likely we would accept the apology.

  8. Last time is checked we are NOT using our military in this conflict.  I believe its the UN peacekeepers that are sending relief over there.  Russia I think is kinda showing Georgia that they are a force to be reckon with. I dont think it would be very wise for russia to attack us due to our ties with them and with the UN.  At the same time I think georgia overstepped their boundaries by thinking they could invade a "russian backed" country and think nothing was going to happen.  Come on now georgia, grant it russia isnt the super power it use to be, but they have the toughest military unit in the known world.  The "spetnaz" is in there right now more than likely cleaning house.  So, as far it being an attack against us?  Yes IF russia were to attack american forces it MAY cause a retalition by us, but that would also be foolish with our forces wide spread all over the world.  I don't get why we seem to always get in other country's business.  Have you noticed that? LoL

  9. My understanding is that our military is flying humanitarian aid into Georgia.  I can hardly imagine any better response than to retaliate if Russia knowingly attacked a US military aircraft or service member.  I think you are on the right track in your comment about using military aircraft to transport in supplies.  It is a perfect way to show that the US is taking a solid stand on the side of Georgia while making it nearly impossible for Russia to do anything about it without provoking a war.  I hope that is not what ends up happening, however, I'd be for it 100% if Russia did something stupid like attacking one of our personnel.

  10. Yeah, which is why it is a STUPID thing to be sending U. S. planes and troops in there.  We should have a NEUTRAL country or organization to deliver the supplies.  Who wants to go to war with Russia?  It would be a world war III that would destroy the earth.
