So I got my husband a titanium ring on ebay. It was suppose to be a 9.5 but it turned out to be a 10. Now he lost it at the lake last weekend and I want to get him another one, I was looking on ebay and the prices are really good. But are they real? Is tutanium a expensive metal? Is it possible that they use something else? Ive gotten a lot of stuff on ebay before but I want to make sure that his ring is real.

  1. They could be fake. It all depends on the seller.

  2. ebay is hit or miss. you're buying sight unseen and you have to pay shipping to get it back to them if you don't like it. The people who sell the "misses" are counting on you to be too lazy/cheap to pack it up and send it back. You can get awesome stuff on ebay, don't get me wrong, but you can also get some real $h1t.

  3. Sure they are... just watch the sellers' ratings.

Gosh, titanium is a really cheap metal, so it's not like they'd substitute something else.

  4. Titanium is a cheap but sturdy metal. There would be no point in making "fake" titanium.

Edited to add: Jewelry stores charge more for EVERYthing. They have a higher overhead. And basically cuz they can. eBay sellers typically get their stock in bulk and pass the savings along to the customer.

  5. There are some "bad apples" on eBay, but the same goes for some shops. I have not been cheated on eBay yet, so it mainly entails using common sense, and checking feedback. They wouldn't fake titanium, because it isn't a precious metal.

    EDIT:

Not all titanium rings are expensive, but those that are more pricey have better craftmanship. If your husband works with his hands, I wouldn't get that metal type. If he ever has an accident, titanium cannot be cut off because of it's strength.
