Are weights absolutely necessary for football?

well football started this year and im a sophmore.i have not had time to hit the weight room AT ALL this summer. I am 6'1 175-180 pounds. i only bench about 140 and squat about 205-215. i was wondering if lifting weights is absolutely necessary for me to be decent this year?I am only 15

  1. It depends, if your on defense then yes! If your a WR, QB, then not really.


  2. it definitely helps alot and makes you better. but it matters about what you can do on the field. you dont have to be very strong to be good at a jv level. varsity is alot different.

  3. Dude, you are 180lbs and you squat 200? and bench 140?

    what team are you on? do you start? are you the kicker? place holder?

    if you aren't 300 lbs you need to be benching at least your weight

    hit the d**n weight room

  4. I guess it depends on how much natural talent you have.  I mean hitting the weights would help a lot but if you can play then you can just flat out play.  I wouldn't skip too many more summer lifts if you plan on playing college though.

  5. Yes.  If you are going to play the OL or DL then you need upper body and lower body strength.  The only way to develop this is weight training.  The Secondary and QB dont need as much, but how can you tackle or throw someone off if you dont have strength.  LB and RB need speed and strength.

  6. Well lifting weights really helps but if you have speed, it could make up for it depending on what position you play..
