  1. Actually, there is no species of Bengal Tiger.  There is only one species Panthera Tigris.  All tigers belong to this species.  The other divisions are just subspecies.

  2. I'm from Bengal and have not seen a white Bengal tiger except in the Zoo.Recently villagers stoned a tiger to death which came close to the village. No arrests made! Man and his greed are responsible- Drastic action by the goverment may work like stopping of grants / facilities to a village community if there is reported wildlife abuse also development incentives if there is increase of wildlife population. Inspite of armchair wildlife experts it's the humans at ground zero who can make or break it.

  3. ."White" tigers are not endangered. For an animal to be listed as endangered it must be recognized as a species. White bengal tigers are not a species or subspecies and their classification as "bengal" is also suspect. It is believed that there may have been hybridization in the early days of white tiger breeding between the bengal and siberian subspecies. Some zoos refuse to keep white tigers, preferring to keep true species and subspecies of tigers for eventual reintroduction into the wild sometime in the future.

This site seems a touch extreme to me but is otherwise accurate.

Adult white tigers were frequently found in the wild until the early twentieth century. By frequently I mean they were seen periodically and mentioned in rumors and stories told by locals and even occasionally shot by hunters. Being fairly visible it might have interfered with hunting sometimes and so wouldn’t have become an adaptive trait but it didn’t appear to curb them otherwise. Very possibly, this gene was a relic of ice age populations that may have hunted along glacial zones in mountainous country and thinned out when glaciers retreated.

  4. i'm not so sure if they are endangered, but i know it is very difficult to find one of them in the wild.

they could very well find themselves on the endangered species list soon thanks to fur poachers.

  5. There is NO species of White Bengal Tiger, there is simple the Bengal Tiger. Once in a great while there is a genetic snafu that causes the White version but it's still just a Bengal Tiger.
