Are wild chinchillas living in the Andes mountains of Chile active all year round?

They are active year round, living in burrows, growing thicker hair during the winter months.

But they are an endangered species, well camoflauged and difficult to find.  Females are larger and better fighters and can have up to 3 litters in one year.

Today, because furs are less worn, their domestic growers have decreased substantially.
