Question:

Are women allowed to become composers in the U.S.? ?

It seems according to what I saw on the internet, female composers stopped around 1940 or so. Is this true? Why aren't females allowed to compose? I got this idea from Tori Amos since she said that she wanted to be a composer but the Peabody Conservatory wouldn't allow her to. Do you find this as ridiculous as I do? It kind of angers me. How dare they. What recourse do you have?

  1. Um, could you cite sources?

In any case, one of my favorite modern composers happens to be a woman. Her name is Julia Wolfe (and she has a wikipedia article now!)

Or just look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:21... and look at all the female names on the list...
