...its narrowness, intolerance, and cowardliness? Feminist Kathryn Jean Lopez thinks so:

"The fact that a cowardly, conformist, and pale imitation of what feminism was meant to be is now touted as the "real thing." The fact that an aggressively secular and primarily narrow and intolerant feminism has driven away millions of women (and men)" http://www.nationalreview.com/interrogatory/chesler200603080754.asp

Do you agree that the dogmatism of feminism has driven many people away?

  1. Phyllis Chesler said this, not Lopez. In the rest of the interview, she emphasizes that her problem with feminists today is that, to her, they value cultural sensitivity over human rights. That's probably true for some who are further on the left than others.

LE VOLEUR: You're right, there should be a distinction made between modern and post-modern.

  2. Rio: Please define "modern feminism" and "post-modern feminism" and their distinctions. And who exactly authorised those terms and why.

  3. Yes. I am not a warrior who wants to be a man. I am a woman that simply wants respect.

  4. I think there's the issue of being driven away, and others shying away in the first place.  I've long said that I am not a 'joiner' of any kind, choosing to believe on my own, and act on my own.  But if I were pressed, I can honestly say that I have no interest in the feminist movement as it exists today for all the reason's Lopez states.  Pale immitation, narrow and intolerant - great words to summarize how I see this bastardization of a once great and important movement...

  5. Yes, judging by how many women here claim not to be feminists as if it's the plague.  Funny though...cause those same women claim to be feminists in other posts...?

  6. The hypocrisy of Modern American Feminists who ignore the Honor Killings in the US and Canada, the polygamy being openly practiced and the Misogyny of Islam is a glaring contradiction of what they claim versus what they do. It is embracing all cultures as equivalent morally to the West's.

A culture where in Turkey a g*y Man is gunned down in an honor Killing. Women are stoned to death for Adultery, g*y Teenagers are hung and executed. In Iraq g**s are tortured before they are executed. And yet Islam is getting ignored in the US. This is moral cowardice.

Chessler and Dr. Wafta Sultan of UCLA have publicly stated that the War with Islam has at its core the West's support of Feminism. Which is destroying its Families. Families are the survival mechanism for the Third World. This conflict cannot be resolved.

Women are also seeing Men rejecting Women who embrace Feminism. Women who are Feminists are used for Sport s*x not for Wives or Domestic Partners. There are more Single Women in the US now than Married Women. Feminists who choose to ignore this reality are morally dishonest. And continue to promote lies to recruit gullible and uninformed Men and Women.

  7. Feminism suffers in its scholarship, not its primary desires. The same shoddy scholarship puts funny periphery issues into the heads of its readers.

I believe the opposite of Rio - that left feminists (genuine ones, not those postmodern imitators) are more concerned with human rights, than the libertarian cultural theory buffs.

(I didn't thumb you down Rio)

  8. That and listening to Germaine Greer makes me want to go deaf.
