I don't feel oppressed. Ive held a respectable military job,where I was promoted with and above my peers by my performance. Ive been a house wife, gone to college and worked as a preschool teacher. All of these things I choose to do. In our society you are only oppressed if you allow it.

But I suppose some people will always feel oppressed or use it as an excuse at least.

well other women consider me oppressed because I wake up every morning and make my husbands lunch and kiss him before he goes to work. Then I do the dishes, feed the dog, and straighten the house....

This makes me oppressed in their eyes...but I think they are just pissed because all I do is spend a mere hour and a half doing something for my husband and he would rope the moon for me if I asked him to.

Islamic countries make the argument that Western women are opppressed, b/c they feel that we are slaves to the media (wanting to be thin and attractive).  

No society is equally balanced..There's probably going to be some degree of opression or negativity that you can find.

What made you ask such a question? Of course we're not oppressed, and I think I speak for the majority of women in here when I say that women in the West have very little to worry about when it comes to oppression. The only ones who're oppressed are the ones who stay in abusive relationships, or who're unhappy with themselves. I personally don't feel oppressed.

And you seem as though you've been angered by someone making this comment. Not all women purchase luxury items, or spend money on expensive cosmetics, and high fashion for that matter. Most of us make due with the simple things in life, and use coupons like everyone else (I know I do!). I bargain hunt at Wal Mart and Target, I shop at Giant for my food and household goods, and I catch things on sale for the sake of saving money for gas, bills, and rent. With this economy no one (unless you're extremely rich) is spending money on such items carelessly. So you tell us, what makes you think that ALL women are doing this?
