My best friend, who is a male, is in the hospital because of some health condition his mom wont tell me about. While on the phone with her I heard the doctor say something about atypical cells. But I thought that only happened in women? Or mayybe just commonly in women. Could someone please clarify what exactly atypical cells are&&who can get them.

  1. i know you are concerned for your friend, but you have to respect his privacy right now.  He will tell you when the time is right for him.

Without going into detail, atypical cells are any cells that don't have a normal appearance for that cell type.  But please, for your sanity, don't research all diseases that have atypical cells.  Just be there for your friend, let him know that your friendship in unconditional and he will tell you what is up when he feels its time.  or maybe its nothing and he just wants to let it go.

  2. Atypical cells are related to cancer and many other diseases.  Everybody has atypical cells in there body.  Its not commonly known but everybody has cancer cells in their bodies.  Our immune system takes care of them.  My best advice would be to let the Mom cope first and talk to your friend later.  Everybody needs someone to talk to and I'm sure your friend will use your shoulder to lean on.  Take care and hang in there.
