  1. i think women of today are not obsessed with marriage as women of the past.

today we are dealing with a lot of liberated women who are fine with expressing themselves sexually without the committment of marriage.

you find more women comfortable with having casual s*x and s*x with no attachments.

also, look how many women are single mothers or mothers of children with multiple fathers.

if the women of today was obsessed with marriage, the percentage of single motherhood would be substantially lower.

but that is my opinion, i maybe wrong

  2. Men benefit from marriage, not women (certainly not the mayority of today's industrialized women), and it's men who make the rules of marriage in most socities of the world.  Therefore it's a male obsession.  Please check out Kinsey's report on marriage and men.

  3. Not at all compared to the past. Nowadays women have careers and other life.

  4. nah, women are obsessed with weddings, not marriages

thats why the divorce rate is so high

  5. Depends on which country and which society you are referring to. The past ways of doing things still exist in many places. But in the UK women (in general) are not so obsessed with getting married for several reasons. College and careers outside of just marriage are promoted big time. Before WWII it was not so. Not in the the UK, or the USA, Canada etc. Women did not used to be able to finacially support themselves much as a group. If they could, it was in dire straights. Not exactly with all the modern conveniences they do now. And the college educations for making such salaries was not much of an option before. So, the women used to take a look at their opions and they saw getting a husband who wanted to go, be, do, what their goals were also was their most often their best choice. And it still is an option. But most women use both career and husband/partner since all choices are available to them. It's not like most can just farm daddy's land instead.

  6. i dont think so in the past it was almost like compulsary that you were married were as today no one gives a s**t

  7. There is no 'current obsession with marriage' ...as far as I'm aware.

Two generations back, there was a sort of 'obsession,' the need for a 'White' wedding, white denoting 'the innocence and untouched status of the bride', and it being 'as big as could be afforded.'

Previously, as my understanding goes, on the whole, the wedding was the start of the second stage of a woman's life, the beginnings of her sexual education and almost certainly, the start of pregnancy and motherhood .....and was the desire of the majority of young women ....to the point of it being something of an obsession.

This, being 'Caught', as it was sometimes termed, was in effect a demonstration to friends and society that she was a desirable catch, a potential 'good' mother for the husbands offspring, and was NOT going to be a Spinster who was ''left on the shelf'' to become like some dried up old prune.

    Or something like that.

    Sash.

  8. there's less marriages now than ever i have 5 daughter 4 with partners but only 1 married,

Married twice divorced twice and the lady above me makes a lot of sense

  9. As far as I'm aware women are not currently obsessed with marriage but the need to belong and feel secure could be a reason for women to want marriage.

In the past it was the job of the man to bring home money for the wife who wasn't allowed to do paid work, so it was important to get a husband rather than burden her father.

We don't need men to provide us with a living anymore and therefore don't have to put up with the abuse that went with it.

  10. well im not obsessed! ive been married to my hubby for nearly 15 years and im not going to change anything, im happy with one mariage in my one life!
