  1. yes, you have better contact

  2. yes absolutely.

Wooden bats are heavier, so you build strength and improve your bat speed.

Another advantage of wood bats is that they have a very distinct difference in feel between the "sweet spot" and the rest of the bat. Most aluminum or composite bats have pretty good pop even when you hit off the end or off the handle. However if you miss the "sweet spot" when swinging a wood bat, you'll know it because it doesn't feel solid, it stings your hands, and the ball doesn't go nearly as far. This trains you to hit the sweet spot of the bat. That way when you switch back an aluminum or composite bat, you hit off the sweet spot which makes the ball just explode off the bat.

    My philosophy is this:

Before the season and during the off-season, you should swing a wood bat that is borderline on being too heavy for you, so you gain the advantages I listed above.

As the season approaches, and during the season, you should swing the same bat in practice that you will use in the games, so that you get a feel for that particular bat.

  3. I think that using a wood bat forces a batter to take a more deliberate and concentrated swing. The wood bat is usually a bit heavier than an aluminum so that would help build strength and make your swing stronger if you use the non-wood in games.

  4. Yes it fine tunes your swing. A wood bat gives instant feedback because the sweetspot is so small and you feel it it you get jammed or cap it.
