I used to have a wooden racket, and I was just wondering what happened to all of them in amateur or pro level tennis?

  1. They are allowed, but there would be ABSOLUTELY no advantage to using one. In today's game, winning with a wooden racket would be practically impossible.

  2. Same thing that happened to crossbows and maces in battle.  Just completely outdated by more modern technology.  Some folks play wood racket tournaments just for the nostalgia, but it's like driving a classic old car.  You wouldn't compete in a real race with one.

  3. Today's heavily baseline and serve game killed wooden racquets. They're not stiff or durable enough to provide the power graphite ones can.

Although, I doubt a meta racquet could compete with the touch and volleys the wooden raquets had.

  4. All of these people are right about the use of it, but wrong about it "not being good enough". I've seen plenty of people use them (while being made fun of), and completely embarrass opponents. Wooden racquets don't have the comfort, nor the technology of a modern racquet, but they are a great weapon if you can handle it.

p.s. I've seen a man win a platform tennis tournament using a frying pan.

  5. yes. they are allowed.. but i dont think it cant stand the power of serves.. and heavy baseline rallies..

  6. no what for.. outdated...

  7. Where have you been? Your question is phrased in a way which makes it seem that you just came back from a 20 year coma. Wooden rackets are allowed, but if you showed up to play a tournament with a wooden racket it would be as if you showed up to fight in Iraq with a sling-shot. Wooden disappeared a long time ago. You could play with wood, the question would be: WHY? Racket and string technology make it possible for modern players to hit with a lot of power and control.

  8. The splinters might hurt.

  9. wooden racquet is allowed, no one ban the racquet, you can play with it - if you can find one.  no one (factory) is making it any more.

wood racquets don't last very long. and if you break one, you cannot find a replacement.

I remember Borg tried to come back with a wooden racquet and it was disasterous.

come to think about it, even the metal racquets (aluminum or steel) are disappear at the pro level games.
