Just wondering if one happens to break down, how easy is it to work on these bikes yourself? Are they pretty simple, or would they require a professional mechanic? Are parts expensive?

  1. it depends on what breaks. if you know how they work or at least pay attention to what you did when you took them appart they are not hard to work on as long as it not something in the engine. putting on a new chain and replacing sprockets are pretty easy, changing the oil and lubeing are easy. factory kawasaki parts are usally pretty pricey but some after market brands are to  but the quality is usaully better in the aftermarket segment. like all things sometimes it is better to get a professional to do somethings.
