Are yellow headlights illeagle?

Question

I was looking them up and from what i hear headlights can be from a color from yellow to white but no other color unless they are factory? Just wondering because I saw a group of 6 cars and 5 of them had yellow headlights and drove by a few cops and never got pulled over. Was just wondering because i hear it is and one i hear some police just like to be a butt and pull people over... just want to know if anyone really knows the answer
