Question:

Are yellow speed limit signs legally binding?

These speed signs show up on highway off-ramps or sharp corners. I usually blow past them at 50km/h+ over their posted speed (slowing down for the corner of course, but the sign is so far back that there's still ample time). So I'm wondering if I could be given a speeding ticket for this?

  1. Those are recommended speeds on off ramps, etc...........

  2. Yes, just the same law applies when they write you up for "too fast for conditions".

  3. The only signs you NEED pay attention to, as far as staying LEGAL, are the white ones that actually say "speed limit" or "maximum speed"

Those yellow signs are recommended speeds, and they have to consider VERY large trucks, motorhomes and OTHER heavy vehicles also when deciding a "recommended" speed. The average car can usually go 15-20MPH FASTER than the # on the yellow signs.

  4. all wrong,  yes those yellow speed limit signs are legally binding, they are NOT recommended speeds.  They are no different than a yellow speed sign for an approaching intersection.  What it is is a temporary speed for that area, after that specific area you may speed up if the original speed resumes.

  5. Yellow signs are warning drivers of a potentially dangerous area of some sort....perhaps a sharp curve, an off or on ramp, a pothole, an temporary obstruction of some sort, a crash ahead, and that could be you laying on the road........so, a yellow sign should be taken seriously........if you don't take the advisory intention of these "yellow" signs, you may suffer dire consequences.........duh, they are intended to keep drivers safe.....

  6. It's not against the law.  the yellow means recommended speed.  I do it too, as well as my friend.  He's got a 2006 mitsubishi evo.  and the car is made for handling, and he hits those corners that say 30 at about 120.  But I do believe an officer could get you for wreckless driving.  As well as a speeding ticket, because the speedlimit on the high way was probably lower than what you're going around the corner.  But as for a cop actually pulling you over, if you're going that fast around a corner, they prob. can't catch you.  That, and they usually don't watch corners.  They watch highways, and smaller areas, were they know people speed, or they know for sure someone will be speeding.

  7. They are used for a safe recommendation for that area and yes if you get caught exceeding the posted recommended speed sign in yellow you can be ticketed for that and I have seen this many times in the past for failure to this, they will use this the same way as if you ran a yellow light..............
