I love working with my students who have communication disorders and enjoy my profession. Unfortunately, there are many changes in how special education services are being provided. School districts are restricting access into special ed and special ed staff is being let go. Those of us that are left are then expected to take on more. I'm concerned that I will become less and less effective with my students and they will not progress like they have before.

Are you an SLP who has changed to another career? What are you doing and are you glad you switched?

  1. I know my former students' SLP works in a VA Hospital now... and enjoys it.  They all know how to behave and less overhead stress.

  2. The SLP at my school moonlights at a nursing home.  She does not enjoy it as much as working with the kids, but it pays the bills, and she said that nursing homes are in desperate need of SLP's.
