  1. well you order in english, there is no language barrier, sometimes just an accent.

    If you are a beginner, start off with california rolls, salmon rolls, and things like that. One roll is about 6 pieces of bitesize sushi. (round k***s of seaweed, rice, fish)

    The actual sushi pieces are just little portions of rice with a slice of raw fish on top of it. It will tell you which fish will be on top by which piece.

    The green blob that comes on the side is wasabi, and it is a spicy flavor mustard almost that you can put on your sushi in small amounts.

    The little pinkish orange leaf like looking things are ginger. They are to clense your palette in between sushi. You do not have to eat them, and many people don't.

    Have fun, sushi is delicious!

  2. A lot of places will indicate on the menu what is raw and what is not.  And if they don't have that, just ask your server - it's okay to admit you're a beginner.  I started out with cooked or at least smoked sushi items and worked up to the raw items.  I have never been sick - sushi-grade fish is excellent and super fresh.  Depending on where you live, it was probably alive earlier that day, which is a good thing!

    Rolls of sushi are called Maki, and pieces of fish on rice are called Nigiri.  Rolls are usually more beginner-friendly.  You'll probably want to order a couple of rolls for yourself, or 4-5 rolls to share with another person.  Some will have 'tempura' in the description, which is a delicious, light deep-fry batter.

    The California roll is pretty common, as others have mentioned.  I also like a Philly roll, which has smoked tuna and cream cheese.  My local sushi restaurant has a Godzilla roll (my favorite) with tempura yellow tail and spicy crab meat on top - yum!

    Have fun :)

  3. Remember, Sushi is not always raw.. you can always try the California Roll which has cucumbers, crab meat, and avocado. There are quite a few variety of cooked sushi items.. just ask your waiter/waitress. If you do happen to be curious about how raw fish takes like.. try some Maki, which is raw Tuna or my all time favorite... Raw Salmon! Yum!

  4. The only time I've had it I got food posioning and was sick for 2 or 3 days. good luck, definatly

  5. Lover!;

    Try some samon or tuna! =)

    its pertty good accually!

    =D

    But not all sushi is raw fish;

    theres like egg(cooked) sushi and just cucumber sushi.

  6. well ROsie,,,anytime I go to a Sushi restaurant I NEVER order the raw fish,,I limit myself to seaweed wraps ( California Rolls ) with cooked shell fish.I love them.

    But the best thing to do is ask a server what they recommend and tell them this is your first visit,,and they can start you with something small and MOST popular among the menu!!

    Good Eating,,,but watch the salt>>> LOTS of it in the dishes with the soy sauce<<< yummy,,,wish I was going with you!

  7. I've had sushi before and i was pretty excited to be trying it..and it was def not what i expected..i couldn't even swallow it! so just be careful..cause it was really embarrassing for me!

  8. I have only had the pleasure of eating Sushi a couple of times and with the way food has been recalled i would be a little leery of eating it at this time unless I knew the restaurant well.  You can always do your research on your computer trust your companion or ask at the restaurant the only other solution is to call my daughter she loves it    lol
