We are planning a one year birthday party for our daughter. Her birthday party will be on October 4th. She was born with a complete bilateral cleft lip/palate. She has had five major operations in the last 9 months and is doing great. She wont need another surgery until she is 10 to repair her gum line. Anyway, we are so proud of her and we want to plan a big celebration not only to celebrate her birthday, but also to celebrate what a special baby she is. I am looking for a theme that will reflect that. I am also looking for a way to express that on the invitations. Looking for all creative ideas. Thanks for your help!

  1. maybe a theme like

"Our little trooper is turning 1!" - have it all pink camo

"Our little angel is tuning 1"- light pastel colors, fairy wings, bubbles

"Our little pumpkin is turing 1!"- fall theme, have her in a pumpkin costume, pumpkins as centerpieces and fall party favors

  2. Put your PC and printer to work! Print stickers for anything that can have a sticker on it... personalize the heck out of everything with her beautiful little face. She's special and you have every right to want to

show it! From Candy bars to drinking cups to and table decorations.

Have a photo shoot, put the pics on your PC and go to town. Choose

one in particular to carry the theme (that of course is "All about me" -

meaning her) and that will be the main photo with others as accents

on the different applications. But the clothes that she's wearing for the

photo shoot will tie it all together. Go for all of it!!! There will be some

people who will say "She's only one and she won't even remember this"

Don't you listen - Have fun with your baby girl now and always.

I'm so glad for all of you that she's done so well. God chose you special to be her parents. I believe that with all my heart. Have fun

and Happy Birthday to your little baby girl!

  3. I would do a "Light of our life" party.

I would give out favors, like candles, that have a sticker placed on it as the lable.

Put her photo on it, and a quote about her being the light of your life.

Maybe make the color theme yellow, and place flowers on the tables like sun flowers or another bright yellow bloom for centerpieces.

Maybe have a table that has information on what happens with a cleft lip and pre/post surgery photos!

Maybe you could have a "Our true love" or, "What little girls are made of" party.

Make it cute with red and white gingham and lady bugs.

At each table could have a transition of her from birth, six months, to 1year.

I mean, you loved her at first site, but with each new day and the next surgery, you have much more appreciation and adoration for her :)
