What do you think of the curriculum? We are considering it for next year. I'm not really interested in anyone's opinion of homeschooling, especially if it's obnoxious. Thanks.

  1. I used aBeka exclusively until I hit 6th grade and then we switched to Saxon math and kind of did our own thing for English (lots of reading, lots of writing).  In highschool I took classes at the community college, used Saxon math, and kinda filled in the gaps with aBeka.  I really like it except for the math.  I am not great at math and the Saxon approach (lots of review) really boosted my math/problem solving abilities.

  2. Hello!

While I am not currently a parent that is homeschooling, I will be as soon as my 7 month old grows up! Ha ha!

I was homeschooled my entire life along with my two little sisters. My mom used different curriculum all of the time including ABeka. While I enjoyed it in some subjects like Science, I loathed it in Math. It was very difficult to understand, but math has never been my strong suit! It might be worth introducing a few of the subjects from that curriculum at a time to see what your children think!

If you have any other questions, feel free to email me!

  3. I've been using A Beka Book and A Beka Academy. I've used all their books for grades 6-12 and the DVD academy for grades 8 and 9. A Beka is very thorough, especially in Grammar and Math. If you can afford the Dvds at roughly $1000 a year it's a great investment because the teachers explain everything. It's just like being in a classroom. I would not have known what to do with the higher grades of math without the DVDs.

  4. We use an eclectic approach and pick and choose our materials for each individual class.

This year we are using A Beka U. S. History and it is very good - we are quite happy with it.

First through third, our son was in a private Christian school that used the A Beka curriculum except for math which was Saxon.  We were very pleased.

A HS family in our area has homeschooled their children all the way and have always used A Beka exclusively and are quite pleased with it.

    Hope that helps a bit.

A Beka has a very good reputation.

  5. Im homeschooled and I just started using Abeka, I really like it better then the other books I used to use. I also use Christan liberty press, I would say to us Abeka and maybe Christan Liberty press.

  6. We use it for science and history this year.  Both my children are enjoying them.  Sometimes with science it is difficult to tie the labs to the text being studied.
