i have a Sony player not more than 5yrs old.

the last 2 movies i got from netflix would not run smoothly all the way thru the movie.

i cleaned both but the 1st started hesitating about 1/2 way thru and the 2nd was almost done.

doesn't make sense that it's the laser since it wiats so long to messup.could it be something else or do you think i just got 2 bad movies?

  1. Could be a scratch or debris on the discs, which is likely.  Nearly every disc I rent has some kind of c**p on it.  It's a good idea to clean every rental before inserting into you player to keep that stuff from transferring.  It could be some debris in the drive mechanism that moves the laser back and forth.  I had that happen a while back that cause discs to be nearly unplayable as it would cause some serious glitches at around the midpoint.  It eventually worked itself out though and has been playing fine ever since.  Or worst case, the drive mechanism has worn out.  You're player is five years old.  If you use it a lot, this could be the case, but the other are more likely.  The easiest way to check if it's the disc is to play one from your own collection that you know works.

  2. If the cd's are scratched then you probably just got two bad cd's. But sony is a great brand, I dont think its youre sony player its just the cd's, Also try playing a different dvd and see if it works, If it does not work then its definitely youre sony player.

    Hope this helps

  3. Yes, I agree with CTW. If this happens again, try them on a friends/neighbors player...only then can you be sure.
