Question:

Are you a neat house keeper?

My house is our home, but although I like it clean and neat it does get cluttered more now than ever before. Why is that? My children are grown and live far away, so how is it I seem to keep it in such a mess? Hubby is no help except he will bring his laundry to the pantry to be washed. The living room and kitchen are kept clean and neat, even the visitors bath. That is because company can see these rooms. But the dining room and bedrooms are messy, newspapers, mags. books, everywhere. The dining room has clutter all over the table but I close the french doors (they have lace curtains) so folks won't see. I don't know If I have become lazy or just too tired to worry with it. We just live here, the house takes care of us now. Poppy

  1. Hello, everyone!  The way I figure it is simple.  If you come to see me, great!  if you come to see my house, too bad, so ssad.  I do not live in a museum.  My house is a 100% clean, but it's not a mess, it;s perfect.  But, if ya'all come over, I bet we could have some tea, or coffee, and munchie and have us a grand ole' nice chit chat, just talkin' in the breeze, being' ourselves?  Isn't that the most impotant thing these days?

  2. I used to keep my house spick and span so proud was I of my lovely home. Then one day my husband and son bought  me a computer to keep me amused, and I think you can guess the rest.

  3. Our home is very large.....we keep everything nice and neat but we have a cleaning person who comes in once a week to clean.

I love a clean house.....both of us do.

  4. Don't worry about it Poppy..I'm just peeking through my fingers and I won't even notice when I visit.

  5. I like my house clean-ish, but not sterile. It does tend to get cluttered, but since I work 10-12 hours a day at my teaching job it doesn't usually get straightened up until the weekend. I really don't care as long as there are no "science experiments" growing anywhere.

  6. Well, it's funny because I did the best I could to keep the house clean when I was younger.  But, like you, when company comes to our house I welcome them as long as they don't go into the private areas of our house.  My hubby once told me that he didn't marry me because I kept the linoleum floors waxed.  That did it for me!

  7. I have a Little "Monk" in me and can't stand a messy house even our dog has to check things out if something is out of place. My advice to you is throw things out or give them away.  You can donate items to the salvation army or other charity and you can even use donations as a tax exemption if you need it.  You'll feel much better just getting rid of the clutter. I have an ex son in law who won't throw anything out and his house is a dump. We think it has become a sickness with him. The more you have the more you have to take care of.

  8. my home usually looks like a bomb's hit it, but it' clean .(dog hair doesn't count )

  9. I have received no complaints from the dog and cats as to the cleanliness of the house.

  10. Ah, no big deal.  Mine is the same way.  I figure why act like a busy bee do gooder house cleaner all the time, when I can do other things.

My house is not dirty, just clutter here and there.

  11. I'm reasonably neat. When people visit, if they don't like it, oh well.

  12. My home is clean enough to be healthy

and dirty enough to be happy.

    Cheers.  CC

  13. nope as long as i have a trail...my daughter as a result of this attitude, has a house you could eat off the floor. She's fanatical about it.So i hang out over there...lol

  14. I live alone so there is no clutter. I do take my junk mail , stamp it "Return to Sender" and drop it off at the Post Office once a month !

  15. I'm a slob. At first, my excuse was that I was working 6 days a week; 10 hours a day so I was too tired. Then, when I wasn't working I was depressed, then it was insomnia. Now I'm getting my act together & working towards a tidy house. Notice I said "tidy" not "clean".

  16. My wife sure is. We can be ready to go out the door& if she sees a finger print on the table she goes & wipes it off!! She does house cleaning for other people,so she is particular!

  17. I used to be such a fanatic about my house there was little time to enjoy life. Now my house is clean just not shining and I do more thinking about cleaning than really cleaning. It's all good.

  18. I'm not to the point of excessive compulsion, but I get close. My hubby is the clutterer. Is that a word? Anyway, I am a cleaner. It's been in my blood for years to clean, clean, clean. Since I've been under the weather the last three years, it takes me a lot longer, but I get it done, or have my husband help what I can't do. I do admit I go overboard at times. I just like things in the place where they belong. That way when you go to find something, you know where it is. If I do get clutter at times, I'll get on a frenzy and just start pitching things. ---(then I regret it later. I swear, if I have something for years, then pitch it, it won't be a week or so that I find that I needed it.!)

  19. Like you, I have a clean cluttered house !  I can clean and have it perfect, but I'm not comfortable sitting there thinking I'm in the wrong house !  As we get older we realize what our priorities are.  We pace ourselves and do what we can, when we can !

  20. Sounds like you enjoy life more than being a  "neat freak" LOL.  I keep my bdrm. door closed due to the same reason.  No one goes in there except me or the family and I don't care if they see it a mess..It's not filthy or have things growing in it or bugs crawling around, but it's lived in.When I get my very weak spells from the sarcoidosis I do well to make it to the kitchen.  I've learned NOT to push myself so much and I feel much better for it.

  21. Not me, never got the hang of it.  I like to watch[notice I said watch]

clean house on BBC, compared to them, I am Heloise I do have a little sign with a Rooster that states my coop was clean yesturday, so sorry you missed it.  Another states if cleanliness is godliness, we are in deep trouble. lets not forget that an immaculate home is the sign of a boring woman.

  22. I used to be but now I'm too tired to do anything anymore(found out I'm anemic and have started taking medication).

  23. There is a good reason for this.  Sit for a minute in your cluttered house and look around.  Now, mentally remove all of the pictures, gifts, mementos.  All of the love and memories tied up with those things.  Now, add to that the things you like to collect.  Your style.  Remove this day's papers and mail.  What is left?  Looks nice doesn't it?  But it is no longer a home.  It has simply become an ordinary house.  So--keep your clutter.  It is life, and love, and all good things.

  24. You are no different than, me. We are older and the kids are gone, but we both work, so that is an excuse that I use.  It's just that you probably don't have the urgency, due to a lack of traffic. I put it off till tomorrow, when ever I can, now days. Don't fret the small stuff. That's my motto.

  25. I was until I started getting all this disability stuff from Social Security and Medicare and I had to go by a file cabinet to organize all the paper c**p I get in the mail!!!!!

  26. I do as much as I can, but I still work full time and have a son at home who cannot seem to pick up after himself. And don't get me started on the husband. OH boy!!!

  27. Sometimes, not all the times! ~ : ) There's a lot more important stuff these days.
