  1. I am a professional that works with children with autism in their homes.

One boy that I knew since he was 8 is now 21.

He is in the moderate range...started talking at 4...currently academically at 4 grade level.-noticable difference in his communication (affect, sentence structure) than 'average' person-but able to communicate well

As a teenager-he downloaded music on napster and played it loudly-ran up the phone bills talking to his girlfirend, had a bar mitzvah with only 1 minor accomodation.....

another boy started kindergarten this year without any support services-a year late-but independently

some have continued to need full supervison and assistance with self care

  2. My child was dx'd at 4 and is almost 12. He started talking around 41/2 yrs of age.  He has academic difficulties and is considered a High Functioning Autistic. He is doing well.  He is mainstreamed here in this state with an aide. He has low math skills, but very, very, very high American History skills. He memorizes lots of facts.

It continues to be difficult to mainstream him completely with not being at grade level in some subjects.

I await the day he won't be on an IEP........- which is when he is done with school.

    Hope that helps.

  3. My son is PPD.He is very low functioning, and non verbal. He is in an autistic impaired class with other low functioning kids. All kids are different, however.Life is h**l, a lot of the time.He will be 14 in july.Functions like a toddler. Finally potty trained though. He is better behavior wise with nutritional suppliments and special diet.
