I am middle class, pay taxes, average American citizen. Recently I have had major issues with my local government. How do I become more active with campaigns and elections. Is there something I can do to get my community to pay more attention in voting for our officials? I called today and found out that I wont know who is eligible to run until April then the vote will be in July. That seems like its not alot of notice and not alot of time for us to get to know whose running for office. Anybody familar with small town elections would you plase let me know all you know! lol

  4. Your Town Clerk will have all the information you need regarding the upcoming election in your town. You can run for office yourself if you so desire!!! The Town Clerk can provide you information about the Democratic Town Primary and the Republican Town Primary, if you choos to run as a member of these two parties. You may wish to run as an Independent, in order to do this there is usually a petition for you candidacy signed  by as specified number of registered voters to be on the ballot. You can run a write-in-campaign for voting for the position you desire. Right-in-votes are required to be exactly correct!!! Sometimes local groups , such as the League of Women Voters sponsor candidate forums , and the candidates come and answer questions posed by the public. (Do you know about a group that would sponsor such a forum in your town, or would you organize you own group to do it. You may want to start you own organization. You could call it: (Your Town's Name Here)  Informed Voting Project!!!!!
