  1. Very.  I wish I'd never seen the movie "Jaws".  I know they rarely attack but I still can't enjoy the ocean even just up to my waist and I love to swim.

  2. Terrified , I've seen all the Jaws movies, And I've been at the beach when the sirens have gone off. It was terrifing , Once when I was swimming there was this little kid in front of me and I saw a fin in the water like 3 mtre from him and he would have only been 10 mtres if that from me. His parents came running down to the water at lightening speed.... thankfully it was just a dolphin.... The water was a little warmer around me after that. lol

  3. Ive encountered sharks on several dives.

Those most beautiful thing you will see down there.

  4. I think the fear of sharks is inherent in all of us.

  5. Usually the biggest thing is

    the scariest thing,

    the most wonderful thing

    and the most magnificent thing.

  6. Wow! That's cool! I'm not afraid of them, unless i'll see one.

  7. Sure, but only slightly more so than any other wild animal. It is only healthy to have respect for wild animals when you enter their domain, hysteria and panic though are uncalled for and not very helpful.

What I do find quite scary is when people go on about how vicious sharks are and how terrible it would be to see one while you are in the water with it, but would on the other hand be quite happy to jump right into a pod of dolphins, predators of the same size class!  Let's face it, when there is danger from sharks it's usually when you DON'T see them!

Anyhow, I am going diving with Great Whites in South Africa in a few weeks, and am I scared? h**l yes. But even more so exhilarated and excited!

People need to start seeing sharks for what they are, top of the line apex predators. Dangerous, yes but not unduly so. They are really fascinating animals and deserve our respect.

They are no more vicious killers than dolphins are cuddly bunnies (as portrayed by Flipper), both species need to be respected for what they are not for what we make of them!

  8. The dwarf shark is as small as your hand, while the whale shark can be as large as a school bus!

    # Sharks do not sleep the same way as humans do. They might seem as if they are sleeping but they are really just resting!

    # Sharks are strong, healthy creatures. No other living thing can take better care of itself than a shark can! Like humans, sharks are at the top of the food chain.

    # Sharks never get cancer! Their cartilage is used in being studied with the hope of developing anti-cancer drugs.

    # Sharks have been around for more than 300 million years! They were around before dinosaurs!

    # Sharks' bodies are heavier than the sea, so if they stop moving they sink. If they want to stay afloat, they must keep moving!

    # Just as humans rule the land, sharks rule the sea! Many people fear sharks, because they hear stories about sharks killing and eating humans. Actually, most sharks are not dangerous!

    # More people are killed by bee stings than by shark attacks.

    # More than 90% of people who are attacked by sharks survive the attack.

    # Sharks attack more men than women. No one knows why this is the case.

    # The bull shark is the only shark that can live in both fresh and salt water. A bull shark may have been responsible for a shark attack that happened in a creek in New Jersey back in 1916.

    # The largest shark teeth found belonged to a Carcharodon Magaloden shark and are 6 inches long. This shark is extinct and lived more than 4.5 million years ago.
