I have this fear of crossing the railroad tracks. The evil things are there it seems waiting to come down at the moment when I choose to cross the tracks. It's like they are saying "gotcha hee hee hee". I always fear that they are gonna hit me over the head and knock me out unconsciously.

  1. Crossing barriers caused a fatality in the UK a couple of months ago:

  2. What scares me are the people that run around the gates trying to beat the train.Or the ones that pull up and sit on the tracks while waiting for a traffic light. You think the gates are bad? That's nothing compared to the mess a fast moving train will make of you.The gates come down too slow to knock you out.The train will knock you into next week though.

  3. Not to scare, but if a train hits you, your dead- duh, but they never had a reported unconscious injury, yet in the U.S.A. But walking next to a train, or within a 5-10 foot range of distance can be dangerous or fatal. My mothers friend was killed when he was walking along the tracks, when a overhanging passenger car steps hit him. I would be cautious, but absolute nothing to be scared of. Workers are hanging on the side when they're moving in the yards. I think that just playing it safe is okay, but being afraid shouldn't worry you. Yes, out here, the rails are bad, and I fear a derailment. But I would never race a train to the crossing. But you shouldn't be afraid, people like me, get close to a train to film them, so don't be worried. Also, I do worry for people who do cross in front of trains, but then, they are dumb for riding/or walking in front of them.

  4. They go down SUPER slow, so there is no way they could knock you unconcious.

PLUS, the LIghts turn on first and then the gates go down.

  5. they will take you head off man, they were designed by the Marquis De Sade

  6. I've never heard of any injuries. Anyway, the lights flash and the bell rings BEFORE the gates come down, so you have a chance to move if you happen to be standing alongside the crossing.

  7. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!

If more people were as afraid as you are about crossing the tracks, then operation Lifesaver wouldn't be around!!!!   Try not to be focused on the "evil things" when they are coming down..try and focus on the train coming from your left and right sides.  SWEET MAMA JAMMA!! I love crazy people!

  8. i never heard of anyone being knocked unconcious, or even bruised, by a lowering crossing gate.

yes, the crossing gates lower slowly enough that pedestrians would not be hurt by them.

also, most gates are made of fiberglass, and have break points.  when cars hit gates that are already lowered, or if cars are parked on the tracks and the gate hits the car roof or hood as it comes down, the gate will break off.  this is a design feature to help protect the gate motor/mechanisms, but what a pain bcs we always have to call the signal maintainer to bring a new gate and the police to protect the crossing in the meantime.

i dont think that even if a person got hit by a lowering gate, that they would have enough strength to break off the gate, but if there is enough resistance such as a car or truck, the gate purposely breaks, so a person would never have to worry about getting hit that hard.
