Question:

Are you against g*y marriage?

Many conservatives that oppose g*y marriage also argue for smaller government (as is a prominent belief amongst most conservatives). Isn't this a contradictory view since it promotes a theocracy based on Christianity? Why do extremely religious groups (of all religions) choose to ignore our constitutional seperation of church and state?

  1. No I'm not against it. If people love each other, surely we should not condemn that as evil? If the church or any other religious body does not want to marry them, then that's their business, but they should be allowed the choice of marriage like heterosexual couples are.

But I think that there should indeed be a huge seperation between any religion and government. After all, look at all the wars in the world in the last 50 years, and I can't name more than about three that have not been caused by religion.

  2. God is against it and so am I.

  3. It seems when it comes to social issues Conservatives would like there to be more government involvement. In most cases I feel that it is our right to self govern on social issues. I don't care one way or the other on g*y marriage. I hear many people say that g*y marriage would create problems with family values. I hate to break it to you but familys are the problem with poor family values. If you want stronger familys in the US I suggest you start with your own. Then you can start up local groups in your community that focus on the strength of the family. These blanket laws that are suppose to make us more morally sound have holes in them that can only be filled on a local level. No matter what the social laws are that are geared toward protecting the family, it is up to me and the members of my family to show strength not the government.

  4. I am against all marriages.  Either prostitution should be legal or marriage should be illegal.  It is pure hypocrisy to outlaw one but not the other.

  5. Im not for goverment marriage at all. I nothing g*y marriage i dont honestly care, but then if g*y marriage is allowed i do believe anything else should be allowed such as incestrious marriage as long as they are both over 18:).

  6. It was never meant to be a separation of Church FROM state.Yes I'm against g*y marriage and abortion too.a much smaller government that listens to the will of the majority is preferred. Notice how major issues like g*y marriage and abortions are never put to a vote?

  7. Ok ... Firstly.... I am NOT against g*y marriage.. BUT i do respect that others will be against it and that is their right to be so.

I am not against g*y marriage because I pretty much believe that these days more people than not do not consider that marriage HAS to be a life-long commitment.. people fall out of love, they lie, they cheat and divorce and so the ideal of marriage is held but few....

Also ... many people who marry these days do so without the intention of having children....

so if two people want to show their commitment by the ceremony of marriage .. why should their gender matter.

At least that is the view I hold.

  8. Cons want a small government and a large, official established Church, in spite of the First Amendment. They wish to be good people, thus they are preoccupied with morality and want moral/social behavior to be regulated. They also want everyone to be the same.  People who are all the same and operate within a rigid framework of morality are easier to *relate* to (think "family values). Conserva-sheep psychologically HAVE to relate themselves to other people, it enhances their sense of stability. Besides, they are lazy and they don't want to have to work at relating so they want it to be legislated.

Also, if we had an established Church we could legitimately fight religious wars.

  9. You see, church and state was the biggest political blunder of all time. They meant freedom to practice which ever Christian denomination you pleased. It was MEANT to be a Christian society. (Even though I am not a Christian and I do not agree with most their views.)

Also yes, I support g*y marriage.

  10. They are unpatriotic thats why. Bottemline they put their religion before the well being of their country and that makes them much like terrorists.

Also I would like to see references as to how these people know what separation of church and state was "Meant" to be

  11. Yes, it's disgusting

  12. 1. Not all conservatives are Christians and vise-versa.

    2. Smaller government and morality in government are not mutually exclusive.

    3. Because our national concept of morality and spirituality overlap doesn't necessarily mean church/state separation has been violated.  For example, caring for the poor is a biblical principle, but not many people would complain that welfare violates church/state separation because it also fits our current concept of morality.

Oh, I'm not against g*y marriage or unions and I consider myself conservative.  I think government should butt out!

  13. i'm all for g*y marriage but i am totally against polygamy. and i don't know why. i guess i'm just a big smelly hypocrite.
