If youre visiting the Iguazu falls area and want to cross from the Argentina side to the Brazilian side are you allowed to cross for a few hours without a visa if you normally require one as Canadian citizen?

  1. I would think absolutely no.

  2. Canadians need a Visa to enter Brazil.  It's really simple to get one; probably less than 1 month from the time you send your papers to the consulate and it is good for 5 years.  If you don't get a Visa you can see the falls from the top of the Devils Throat on the Argentinian side, but basically all of the falls face the Brazilian side, so it is worth the hassle to make sure you can enter Brazil.  There is a path about 1 km long loaded with falls to look at if you can get in to Brazil.

  3. Technically you are supposed to have the visa to step foot upon Brazilian soil, but there is a good chance you'll be allowed over, especially if you aren't carrying luggage with you and it's clear that you're just going for a few hours. It really depends upon the whim of the border patrol, though, so it's risky. I will tell you that if you are blonde, it improves your chances. Seriously! There is a consulate near the border that is waaaaaaaaaay more mellow than the one in Buenos Aires, so if you are turned down for not having the visa, you can get one there fairly quickly. You also need an immunization card for the shots.

    ¡Buena Suerte! : )

Btw.... you might want to ask this on the TripAdvisor forum for more feedback. I promise you'll get way more responses there.
