hey guys, i have put my horse in a dutch gag, as she loves to jump and is strong, i find it easier to jump her in this bit, rather than in a snaffle which she grabs and runs.

but i was wondering when it comes to showing are you allowed to show in with a dutch gag??

i have a show coming up and i would like to jump her and show her, therefor i dont want to be changing her bits around all day. xx

  1. You cant use them in hack shows or for dressage also not allowed in any pony club events or training.

  2. showjumping or cross country it would be fine.  It is illegal in dressage so if eventing you'll need to switch her back to a snaffle and its either illegal or SERIOUSLY frowned upon in hunters (like you wouln't place with one)

  3. It depends on what you'll be showing in.

Dutch gags are illegal in all levels of dressage, so if you'll be entering combined training or 3 phase you'll have to swap bits between.

According to the USEF rule book dutch gags are legal in the Jumper arena and on the cross country course.  However it's doesn't specify about gags in the hunter arena.
