No, its meant to give you practice for the tube (you're not allowed to smile there either)

you could for an oyster photo but photobooths these days normally give you 4 photos of the same expression so you could not use smiley face in a uk passport....the passport agency would reject it on grounds of smiles or frowns alter the contours of your face, so if your 4 shots are all for different things and you are using other three for non-oyster i.d

bear in mind--smiley ones are not valid elsewhere.

Probably not most identity photos like that you are not allowed to pull an expression. You just have to look grumpy.

Since you swipe it and don't show it to anyone, it doesn't matter. I've never seen the point of the photo unless you're going for the child ones. No one has ever looked at mine since Oyster came in.
