I only ask because I am quite good with money, but have worked out that by the time I finish uni next year, I'll be 27, have pretty much no money and will owe about £20,000 in loans, and there is no garentee of a job at the end of it. I'm very worried :S

  2. 3. well since im a teen my finincial position is decent

  4. skint

  5. Well if its a student loan then you don't need to worry about paying it off until you start earning a reasonable wage. There are millions of other people in the same boat as you. It was the same for me a few years ago and i'm doing just fine.

  6. I get by from one payday to the next, but I've never got any savings, and I am only halfway through paying off a loan.

One problem I have is that I am underassertive; I don't claim a lot of the money I am owed from work in OT and expenses!

  7. I'm terrible with money!  For you, though, since you are still on the cusp of going into a downward financial spiral, I suggest getting your resume underway and looking for jobs NOW.  That way, when you graduate, you will be all set to start working and paying back your debt.  Good luck...I feel ya!

  8. Yes, I'm "always skint", and yes, I'm "in a decent financial position". For me, the two go together.

I heard of a study showing that the best return on investment comes from putting money into tuition for higher education.

There are no guarantees of anything. But by putting yourself in a position where you are able to use your capacities, you've sure tipped the scales in your favour.

Getting yourself a marketable skill is the best assurance you can have. There's always work for physicians and cooks, even in chaotic economies.  (Also, this gives a person the opportunity to work in a variety of locations.)

My own strategy has been to stay skint by committing a major portion of my income to 'forced-saving' strategies. Ongoing schooling has been expensive in time and money, but has produced benefits. Because I have been able to get work in areas with good fringe benefits, my quality of life has improved, as well as my income.

Buying a modest home, and making the highest payments manageable means that I have stayed skint, but am in a decent financial position.

By limiting the amount of money available for foolishness, I've avoided a lot of temptations.

My lifestyle is modest, but  being economically self-sufficient is, in my opinion, the most decent of financial positions. Knowing that I am not dependent on someone else to provide for my child or me is priceless.
