There is a new wave of political, financial and social power in America. Chances are you are part of it and didn't know it. I blogged about it at:

and posted an article on Helium.com:

Does that apply to you? Chances are it does. You should be proud to be part of the movement that finally forces the Baby Boomers off center stage.

  1. Yes, I'm part of it. Thanks for the link. Very interesting.

  2. Age and time will force the Baby Boomers off stage.

As for UPPIES, where is the difference? Its the same rhetoric with new technology. The big difference is that while the Hippies actually went out and did something and the Yuppies had the money to to do something, the Uppies, by your definition, spend 16 hours a day on the internet talking about doing something. that leaves 8 hours for holding a job, doing laundry, sleeping, etc. Where is the time to make any real change.

This is not to say that the Internet isn't a useful tool, but the Internet alone has never changed anythingin the world of politics. Without hands on action, change does not occur. Oh sure, you can motivate people to change through the Net, but with so many divergent viewpoints out there, the Uppies are just more fish in the pond, overshadowed by whales and sharks.

The Uppies are not the third party because for the last 15 years there have been more than three parties. Extremist groups of all colors, religions, and genders each have their own parties and have run their own candidates, though we often hear little about them.

The Libertarians have been running candidates since 1972, their most successful was Ed Clark and David Koch with 921,299 popular votes (1.1%) in 1980. Ron Paul did half as well when they ran him the first time in 1988 with Andre Marrou gaining only 432,179 popular votes (0.47%).

The Green Party has been running candidates since 1996, but they don't do well because most of the time their presidential pick is Ralph Nader.

If Uppies are truly going to make a difference and want to claim spending 16 hours a day on the Internet as a strength, doing their homework and fresh words and ideas would be a good starting point. Your articles demonstrate a lot of heart, but past parties started out with a lot of heart.
