Question:

Are you an apologist for Islam?

A lot of times I hear comments like, women are inferior to men according to Islam. Or that we are going to get 72 virgins in heaven. I know that these things have no basis in the Quran. Most of the times these comments come from people deliberately seeking to argue and say bad things about Islam. Are we as Muslims required to "defend" Islam in such scenarios, knowing that it won't really change the said person's opinion about it?

  1. why should we be defensive in practicing  Islam ?

The Honourable Quran is all what we need, and we should be happy instead of being defensive.

the question is who would get Hoors in heaven,if they say suicide bombers then they are sadly mistake.

but my dear friend, majority of peoplear4e emotional about Glorious Quran, but on the other hand they reject verses of Glorious Quran to uphold baseless hadith the most glaring example is 3:18...we need to tell them once or twice perhaps ,and then leave them alone,as most wants to criticize Islam, they ridicule mostly through hadith narrations like Prophet's Marriage to Aisha, and i do get surprized most of the people here who are pretty active in here, do reject Verses of Honourable Quran over hadith,do not reject this hadith either, when some one ridicules Prophet Muhammed like that.

perhaps they think Glorious Quran is silent on this subject which is entirely untrue.

[3:98] Say, "O followers of the scripture, why do you reject these revelations of GOD, when GOD is witnessing everything you do?"

[53:29]  You shall disregard those who turn away from our message, and become preoccupied with this worldly life.

3:19] The only religion approved by GOD is "Submission." Ironically, those who have received the scripture are the ones who dispute this fact, despite the knowledge they have received, due to jealousy. For such rejectors of GOD's revelations, GOD is most strict in reckoning.

  2. these people just wants to give a bad name to Islam.  first tell them the truth, if they don't listen, Ignore them!!

  3. To be honest, women in many Islamic nations are still considered inferior to men and are not allowed to involve themselves in social situations and are advised to sit inside their homes!! And the 72 Virgins in heaven thing, it's true, it's written in their Quran that if a muslim made good deeds during his lifetime on earth and his sins are lesser compared to his good deeds, he goes to heaven and gets 72 virgins. The Quran also says that an infedil (kaafir) should be killed. Such holy books were written long back when men were not civilised and science did not exist, yet, many muslims still believe this and are against non-muslims and this is the reason for the existence of several Islamic terrorist groups targeting non-muslim countries and killing innocent people in the name of God. So silly and lame! God, being the fountain of love, would never want his children to be killed just because they don't belong to a particular religion. Matter of fact, God never asked his children to divide themselves into religions!! And if anyone has his/her view about Islam or any other religion, whether it is in favour of it or against it, should voice his/her opinion because we have THE RIGHT TO FREEDOM OF SPEECH, and nobody should stop us from doing so.

  4. it is our duty to defend Islam .. and yes no matter what u say u can never change their opinion for they chose not to listen !! they judge Islam based on what they've heard on the media and that is so ignorant !! so try my brother and have patience for Allah will reward those who r good and patient !

all they have to say to defend their opinions is 9/11 and suicide bombers ... anything else ? no !   WHY? just bcuz they know nothing about Islam except of what they've heard on TV !!

may Allah guide them all to the right path.....Amen

  5. “ When ye hear the signs of Allah held in defiance and ridicule, ye are not to sit with them unless they turn to a different theme. [Qur'an 4:140] ”

“ And when they hear vain talk, they turn away therefrom and say: "to us our deeds and to you yours; peace be to you. [Qur'an 28: 55] ”

“ Hold to forgiveness, command what is right; but turn away from the ignorant. [Qur'an 7:199] ”

“ Have patience with what they say, and leaves them with noble (dignity). [Qur'an 73:10] ”

“ And the servants of Allah . . . are those who walked on the earth in humility, and when the ignorant address them, they say 'Peace' [Qur'an 25:63] ”

    “ Allah is with those who restrain themselves. [Qur'an 16: 128] ”

  6. There is much fear most of which is being driven by our media.  Unfortunatly our media gets caught up in this c**p.  I am an unitarian universalist and Iraq veteran.  I never felt any anger or hostility toward Islam.  I respected my interpreters right to pray and believe.  I fell that no Muslim should have to apologize for thier beliefs.  The freedom of religion is based in our founding father's constituion (i'm assuming your American if not disregard the statement)  There is unfortunatly much much ignorance in the world and assumptions that are completely unfounded.  I wasn't in Iraq fighting "muslims" I was trying to do my best to give the citizens a better life and protect them from people with an ignorant view of thier own situation.  Unfortunatly the average person does not understand this and assumes all Muslim people are bad.  I met many wonderful people in Iraq.  People are bad or good, religion has nothing to do with it.  I was blown up by a suicide bomber in Iraq and grievously wounded.  Even though the bomber most likely was perveting his religion, I will still respect the Islamic religion.  You should be proud of you beliefs and never apologize for them. People will always be ignorant of anything.  Just let them go on their way and if possible educate people who are willing to listen.

  7. Defending is good, but that doesnt mean you want to go out and start bashing the other person. Thats not defending. You need to have sabr and patience. You could try to show them the right way, and pray for them like the prophet (pbuh) did. Its their decision if they want to listen or not, and sometimes we cannot be taken account for other peoples decision.

  8. The Qur'an says to bear with them for a while and to grant them respite and to let Allah handle it. Instead of debating, just turn your back to them.

    {5:64}

"..........but if they don't agree, just say: 'bear witness we are Muslims."

  9. i always ignore ignorance, specially when they know what they are saying is a lie and still they say it because their hearts are full of hate

  10. yes...when we see something wrong we are to attemp to fix it if we can't then we are to at least by our heart acknowledge that it is wrong.

  11. Just explain to them once or twice what does that means, and if they still persistance on it without really trying to understand, then leave them with their own thought.
