I could easily do the school thing, but how about jobs?

How is the starting pay with a B.S? What specific engineering field is the best/ or which one would you recommend?

  1. I know a couple... Mechanical is never the hotest pay, but it is the most constant.  EE fluctuates, as does computers, as does Areo Asto...

  2. There will be many openings in all upper management and professional careers as the many 'baby boomers' retire.  There will not be enough skilled workers to fill all of these positions so Canada and the U.S. are trying to lure skilled workers from other countries.

Choose the field of engineering that you have an aptitude for or an interest in.  The hours you work comprise a large part of your day and should be enjoyed.

  3. Become a plumber, a/c tech, etc.

They make the same money as an engineer, way less school, way less school debt, work with fun people not jerk engineers.

Plus engineering jobs are getting shipped overseas like mad. Plus we will still need plumbers if the economy collapses. Plus engineering jobs are horrible now because you are forced to design disposable c**p that you will never be proud of.

  4. My brother just graduated with an aerospace engineering degree.  He did not have a job prospect in place when he graduated, and did not even have an internship in a position like he would be looking for upon graduation.

I feel like he was very fortunate. He received a job offer and is starting the job about one month after he had officially finished his schooling.

    Lucky duck.

  5. In today's engineering organizations, prepare to act as a drafts person on the CAD screen. I used to direct draftsmen, but today you are expected to make your own complete CAD designs. As a consequence, they are too busy making cartoons to be concerned with strength and durability issues. I have witnessed it.
