If you see someone getting jumped or beat up and you just stand watching in awe does make you an unresponsive bystander?

  1. This is called the bystander effect. One example of this would be the Kitty Case in the Bronx I believe in 1964. 37 ppl just watched out their apt windows while a woman was being murdered. She screamed for help and not one person called the police until after the event occurred. Not one person. So basically the more people you have during an emergency sit., the less help you r going to get. Its not known as unresponsive. People just assume that someone else called the police and they dont have to get involved. Therefore, standing and watching a person fight without intervening is known as the BYSTANDER EFFECT. The more people that are in a situation like that always ASSUME someone else has done something about it so they dont need to get involved. Hope this helps or is at least interesting :)

  2. Well, you are unresponsive and you are standing by, so I guess so. lol

Are there other ways to respond to a fight beside intervening?

Calling over a larger friend to intervene?

    Calling the cops?

    Cheering?

    Running away?

"just stand watching in awe" is unresponsive by any definition. Your response to an event doesn't have to be involving your person in it, but not doing anything is unresponsive by any definition.

    XD

  3. Depends, if it is two guys slugging it out, I let them go on about their business, but if it is a guy hitting a female, chances are I will do something.
