  1. I am always proud of New Orleans no matter what.

  2. Very proud of LA and TX--loks like we might have learned a lesson last time !!

  3. Interesting feedback ya'll while I respect your words Princess, if not the National Guard and Army who's going to ensure that order is well - in order? I mean isn't that their job?

  4. I think it is horrible that our military and there families are suffering beacuse the folks of NEW ORLEANS did not head warnings the first time, so no I am not proud AT ALL that our national guard has had to be put in harms way to protect the idiots that refuse to leave AGAIN..........

  5. To Princess, the National Guard helps with fires in California, flooding in the midwest, snow storms in the northeast, and other disasters in every corner of America. Why is it that suddenly you resent the fact the National Guard is helping in New Orleans?  Why is that?

The hurricane preparation and evacuation did go much better than during Katrina. That is a credit to the superior leadership of the current state administration, which also took the lessons of Katrina.  Realize that former Governor Blanco denied any decisions she or her administration made were defective**, which would have been a big problem if another storm threatened before Jindal took office.

** I personally heard her publicly deny that anything done during Katrina by her or her administaiton was anything but fine.

About 70,000 people did not evacuate for Katrina (of which 30,000 went to the Superdome) but less than 10,000 stayed this time.  That is partly because of better planning, and partly because many of the people who needed rescue in 2005 have not returned to NOLA.

It is likely most of the people who refused to evacuate this time did so because they live in parts of the city that didn't flood during Katrina and were prepared for whatever might happen.

The levee system also held up, even though is is still 3 to 4 years before the in-progress upgrade is complete, That offers hope the improvements will protect us from future strong storms.

Fortunately (so far), the preparations have not been tested by a disaster on the scale of Katrina. Do remember that New Orleans was doing OK in 2005 until the walls on the 17th Street and Orleans canals breached, flooding 80% of the city. Once the crisis struck, the houses of cards that were the city & state administrations collapsed.

  6. Absolutely.

  7. Dr. Bottom: Tell that to the people who are in the real path of the storm! Apparently you are only watching CNN.

I am proud of not only New Orleans (which by the way gets most of the media attention).. but to all the other parishes and the Mississippi Gulf Coast authorities. Too bad that we only get to hear about what the media wants us to hear. Am sure there will be more stories when the storm is over.. which it isn't yet. But yes, I am proud that our governments and authorities down there have made major improvements not only with the levees, but with everything from shelters to communications efforts.

  8. No. The real test would be if a real storm hit. Gustav was nothing more than a few thunderstorms.

  9. yes i am i couldnt watch them folks go through that again
