No. When you are born your body has no preference. It develops across the first 18 months of life and depends which or the lobes in your brain is dominant. if it's the left side you are right handed and vice-versa. In most societies right handed is the norm and young children are often given objects to hold in their right hands to influence the brain's choice. I, personally, was born left handed but when I started school in 1950 was forced to use my right hand. As a result my handwriting is still terrible. In those days they thought that left handedness was a 'disability' hence the use of words like 'gauch' to describe a clumsy person and adroit to show s clever one, These words are derived from the french Gauche (left) and droit (right). A right handed person is decribed as 'finistral' and a left handed one 'sinistral'. This is where the word 'sinister' comes from as the devil is supposed to be left handed. My son had problems as a child as neither of his brain lobes acquired dominance. As a result he is 'left -eyed', right handed and left footed. To find which of your eyes is dominant hold out your arm and point at an object in the distance. Now close one eye. If the finger remains pointing at the object that is your dominant eye, if it jumps to one side it is the other eye. Think of shooting a gun and looking down the sights. The eye you use is the dominant one.
