Is it just me, or is it fecking hard to get by at the moment. I'm still at home, shite job, no savings!! I'm a law abiding citizen, never been in trouble with the law..... i'm 26 and have worked since leaving school and it seems like those who come to this country get anything they want!! Where's the logic? Any comments or ideas on how to better myself?

  1. Yeah, migrants live such a charmed life. If you go and live in another country, you'll find that the government there will shower you with wealth and privileges and put your interests ahead of the miserable people who were born there. Go ahead and try it.

  2. (Number 1 is the most important point, with the right attitude you can achieve anything)

    1. Stop blaming others (take responsibility for yourself you're 26 not 16) BE A BLOODY MAN- forget about immigrants and look at your own situation - it's YOUR fault you've got a c**p job not theirs.

I would definately say read the poem 'IF' by Rudyard Kipling.

    2. Start applying for better higher paid jobs, buy a book on interview techniques and research the job you wanna do in great detail. Otherwise retrain and go into a different career area, do a college course after work.

    3. Now you've got a job untie yourself from mummys apron strings, either find a cheap place to rent or share with people, learn to budget, pay bills, and take on a bit of responsibility.

    4. Now you need to consolidate your position by saving some cash, going for that promotion or improving your way of living.

    Good luck.

To get on in this world you need to have a thick skin, determination and a vision of where you want to be.

If you want to spend the rest of your life moaning about immigrants carry on by all means, but you'll still be a loser in 5 years time!!!

    Make It Happen.

Also in my experience people who constantly say they have no money conveniently forget about the 10 pints they bought at the pub last night and the 40 f**s they smoke a day, and the £20 club entry fee they paid and the £40 branded shirt they just bought and the....... do i need to go on?

Cinders - The reason most uni people have that image is that some (not all) of the people who go to uni are trying to avoid growing up. They milk the whole thing for what they can get,

State Education, Sixth Form, College, University and then to top it all they leave uni at 23+ and then want to go travelling rather than actually knuckling down and getting on with real life. I would employ someone with REAL hands on experience over a graduate anyday, for the simple fact that they have gone out and applied themselves to the work of getting their hands dirty rather than lolling around with theoretical assignments and deadlines.

  3. Try being in your thirties with kids and having to rent a house! No mortgage because nobody is giving them at the moment....4 mouths to feed and bills to pay. Count your blessings that you only have yourself to look after.

  4. Start a new life abroad

  5. No ideas but total agreement; I have a house but between spending my wages on petrol to get me to work & back, and food so I can live I have no money left.

  6. You are going to think me soooo boring but whilst you speak and write the bad language as you do it will be hard to get on anywhere. Yes! I agree with you many jobs are 'dead end' and the cost of living has soared, causing the majority of people to really be struggling.  Education gets you a better job but it just doesn't come short term.  It really all depends on how you view life.  Getting a better education isn't going to make you mega rich, only few have the midas touch and really get in to big money. However, unlike years ago you don't have to be very, very clever to get on. If you are good at something(s) and can see a career from your gifts then you can do all sorts of modules to get you to top of your tree.  This didn't happen years ago so at least you are in with some sort of chance nowadays. Okay life is tough for us all just now but you are young and have a lot of time in front of you, don't be discontented as you obviously are at present, attempt to get out the rut you are in and I wish you lots of luck and would love to read on here you have suceeded one day.

  7. When you know can you tell me? It seems even Uni doen't 'better' a person any longer. In face, as a uni student I am branded a sponger and a waste to society, yet I attend to better myself and earn my way in the world! I give up!

  8. No.  Learn to be a plumber, get your necessary quals and then emigrate.

  9. Learn to spell the word 'twenties'.  Go to France or Germany, do any work you can, learn another language, do a course with the Open University, get loads of computer skills, work with disabled adults, get a job with Goldman Saachs and get them to send you to New York for a year, read all the local papers, apply for as many jobs as you think you could do, there is no point in trying to resist the growing tide of immigrants who are just taking our jobs ...

  10. It is always easy to blame the newcomer, or the immigrant, or someone of different colour, or religion, or nationality, or football team or....... where does it end?

Life can be hard, especially for the young, and there are no easy answers or simple solutions whatever you might think.

I left a life like yours, many years ago now. I went to sea in the Merchant navy and worked there for a good number of years. It didn't do much for me financially but it gave me awareness that otherwise I would not have had and a real feeling of being fortunate simply to be alive.

  11. im 24 and im the same. so im joining the RAF

  12. not any more but I used to be - i used to be in my twenties and I used to be Bristish- well I guess technically I'll always be Bristish- but I am now an American Citizen - I left Britain to seek a better life - though I know plenty of folks taht stayed in Britain and love their lives - it's up to you to make the most of what abilities you have- work hard to improve your skills and you can improve your job options. Thw world is your oyster!

  13. You lack logic, eloquence and intelligent reasoning.

  14. I DO wish that you would watch your language, even if it is "substituted" for.  Especially here in the Etiquette section, it just doesn't sound proper.

While I'm in the USA and 50+, life is difficult here, too.  With the rise in gas and food costs, and my income NOT increasing, it is tougher to get from one day to the next without seeing a "disconnect" notice in my mail!

If the immigrants in Britain are getting anything they want, why not try emmigrating to The Netherlands?  They seem to be very open and generous to their immigrants, too.

Otherwise, if you wish to better yourself, see about any sort of educational courses.  Don't you have an "employment service" with job listings?  I'm sure they can connect you with some "self-improvement" courses, skills training classes, etc.  Education is still the best way to improve your "marketable" skills.  The more skills you have, the more you qualify for.

Good luck!  Have a good time in Amsterdam!

    Have a polite day.

  15. I`m 31, and I live in Canada..It`s extremely difficult for middle income earners to live here, especially with children.I have a house two cars and a boat. Try having people depend on you to survive, ( like two children), THEN you can complain. In Canada we`re taxed to death and immigrants have free health cards and are treated better than people that are born here..Come here, LOL!!!Don`t complain until you have to live on your own.My brother is like this ...he`s 28 and still living at home with a crappy job and no direction in life. FIND DIRECTION!! LEARN HOW TO SPELL!!MAYBE you`ll get a good job and afford to move away from home.

  16. yes i know the feeling! all our money seems to vanish! We have 2 small kids and i cant quite get over just how quickly all the cost of everything is going up so rapidly!! I'm actually starting uni in Sept and i actually think i will be better off being a full time student than a full time mum strangely enough!! im 28.
