Question:

Are you careful about the advice you receive in the Adoption category?

I am a mother to two babies adopted at birth. I am aware of many of the laws within our state concerning adoption and I am very mindful of my adoption language as well as promoting a positive view on adoption for those who want to know more about the process or who are thinking of adopting.

The support given to everyone who posts a question in this catergory is tremendous. It's great to see others offering their advice and words of well wishes to those on all sides of the adoption triad.

However, I've noticed that sometimes the advice given is based on opinion or misinformation rather than fact. So, please keep in mind that not everything you read here is considered to be lawful or factual.

Use this forum as a resource, but make sure you check out your own state's laws as well during your research.

Adoption is wonderful and I hope that everyone considering adoption, placing a child for adoption, or searching for birthparents to be well informed.

  1. It would also be helpful, in my opinion, for more people to post sources/links to additional information to jump start the person doing more research. Yahoo makes it easy with a search window right on the answer screen.

I know I am going to try to include a link as often as possible.

Thanks for bringing this issue up

  2. Thank you for your question!  I too agree with the comments you have made, and agree that we do all need to also be mindful of using the proper positive adoption language in this category.

The support here is truly amazing and I am so glad that I can be a part of that.  But you are correct, the information provided should only be used as a start to check into things in your own state.  Things vary so widely from state to state and even agency to agency when it comes to adoption.

Kudos to you for bringing up this sensitive subject.

  3. I think that all information received on this website should be used as a guideline....not as the absoulute truth.

Remember, the poeple on this site (including myself) are just regular every day people voicing their opinions.

Congrats on your adoption of your two wonderful kids.....they're lucky to have someone like you in their lives!

  4. I think that anyone, regardless of the category that they are posting a question in, should take all that they read here with a pinch of salt. Yes, most of it is personal opinion and therefore should never be taken as the gospel truth . . . I am wondering how many people believe everything they read here. . . .  some of the questions do amaze me but I think that if people have half a brain, they would get some general advice here but back it up properly with more specialised and verified advice . . . . surely?!

Thanks for your post - and concern!

    Best wishes.
