Are you close with your family?

And what constitutes your closeness, or lack of closeness?

yes, i'm really really close to my 2 sisters, dad and mom.  at 30, i still go to my parents for advice.

No, we're not close. About 20 years ago, I was fairly close to my mother's side and I used to spend a lot of time with them. It was during happier times. As I got older into my teens, the family situation became more dysfunctional and I grew apart from them.

We are distant because we have nothing in common at this point. I've grown up to become a productive, law abiding member of society and they are like the opposite. They don't understand nor can they relate to me anymore. Now, I don't see or talk to my family members unless it's at a funeral that I might attend. I don't have their phone numbers or contact information nor do they have mine. I don't know what's going on in their lives at the moment and I don't care.

I only talk to my mother though- and we don't get along a lot of the time. My mother will call me when something major happens or if there's some gossip. Some of my relatives live very close to me and I don't associate with them and it's OK with me.  I know it sounds cold and empty but this is what it has to be.

I would like to have the feeling of having what people call "family." It will make my holidays and special occasions easier.  However, with that being said, I have no interest in reuniting or trying to become close to them again at this point.

Yes I am very close to my Family I was raised that the importance of family is very important. Our whole family is close and I have a big family that keeps growing!!!! Plus I'm gaining a whole new family with my Fian'cee. We all believe that you have to work together or you can't make it at times through all the rollar coasters I have been on throughout my life I have always known I could count on my family. And if you mess with one of us you mess with all of us.

Yes and no, to be honest.  I live approx. 20 hrs from my entire family, and we talk occassionally.  I know if we lived closer together, we'd talk more often.  I hardly ever go home because of scheduling conflicts!

just my mother, a causin , and 2 of my aunts. and i have a huge family. so those numbers are bad!

I'm close with my father, and that's about it. He's just been there for me as a father should. He always stepped up when needed.

My sister was pretty mean to me growing up, and i feel she kind of messed the chance up to be a good sister and be close with me. My mother kind of failed as a mother when i was a teen, leaving my father and trying to relive her 20's. I don't forget things, and i tend to hold onto them for years and years.
