  1. I didnt know the bees disappeared.... where have they gone

  2. Everyone should be concerned about the bees disappearing!  Without their pollinating we are going to run out of many of our most nutritions food sources.  And there won't be any seeds to propogate.  It really would not take that much, several years of late freezes and no bee activity to totally effect the food we produce, making it scarce.  Yes, we have found a way to self pollinate our crops but it doesn't produce as much as natural pollination. This is a most serious problem.

  3. We have plenty here.

  4. Yes, they are important, much more than some people realise.

I heard they were on the decline, partly due to virus, but I'm relieved that I still see lots in my garden.  I make sure I have plenty of herbs and shrubs for them to visit and do not use pesticides or herbicides.

  5. No thanks. But bees give us honey.

  6. Yep - without them you can pretty much kiss goodbye to flowering plants (including fruit and veg crops) and lots and lots of birds will starve... then the things that eat the birds will starve...

  7. Absolutely!!!  without bees, we would not food, flowers, many products made from plant sources, would be very very expensive.  Honey, cotton, fruit, veggies, etc., etc., etc.

  8. i think everyone should be concerned with the dissapearance of bees because they are a vital link in the chain of life.without bees countless plants that rely on them to pollenate them would become extinct with devestating consequences for human and animal life

  9. I have a theory.  I recon that since the bees like to frequent Ragwort flowers and it has been systematically destroyed on the roadsides, that there is a link.  Ragwort has poison right?  Well the bees have since been getting more lice.  You make the link I made?

  10. I am very concerned and so should all of you, Pay careful attention to stub Mac's answer

  11. Yes I'm extremely concerned - it's a potential catastrophie that not many of the public seem to know about, care about, or appreciate the impact of.

Apart from the viruses I've read about entire hives killing themselves. No-one knows why the bees are dying or how to stop it.

If all the bees die what the h**l will we do? Most people have no idea how essential bees are, and that we can't replace them with a gadget!

  12. It's still winter, they are hiding.

But, my son says that if all the bees die, the population of the earth will die because  we cannot fertilise all the plants and then we won't have any food.

  13. not really

  14. God put them here to cross-polinate,without this we would have less plants and food.

  15. maybe there comming to canada cuz my annual sting has turned in to 3 or 4 stings a summer... but do you have anyinfor about this i would love to know more!

  16. I didn't know they'd gone any where. But if they are, my initial reaction would be to say no. They sting and ruin picnics. But to give it some thought I can see that it could become a big problem (if indeed it is happening at all) with pollination of food crops and plants.

  17. Well yes, they have had a hard time in the past few years. I know that a few people aren't worried but bees do a very important job and without them our food sources could become problematic as bees pollinate vast amounts of plants which in turn give us food, and i'm not just talking about honey.

  18. Yes, there will be a concern if bees vanish because they are an integral part of nature's food chain.

  19. Yes. I think many people do not realise the importance of bees in our food supply. Was it Einstein who said '5 years after the last bee dies, people will die'?

Bees are our 'sentinels of the environment', very much like butterflies and fireflies. Unlike ants, termites or coachroaches they are extremely delicate and will not adapt to a negative environment.

  20. I'm concerned. I'm also hoping that the bees starting becoming resistant to whatever is making them go away.

Bees pollinate flowers, fruits and a wide range of tasty vegetables. The foods that bees directly support are at the tasty end of the scale. The ones that don't need bees are at the other not as tasty end of the scale.

Let's hope they start coming back soon.

  21. No not really - not yet. The bees were a concern last year as they returning - but it is concerning that they are being effected and even more so - what the effect of bees have on the entire population on our food. If the trend continues it could be alarming - but not I think it is too soon to panic.

It seems to me that people would start taking things more seriously with their environment - but alas people are morons by and large.

  22. There was supposed to be a shortage last year although we did not notice less bees as usual, but it's still to cold and no flowers are out yet that they enjoy. So wait until it gets a bit warmer and you will start to see them again.

  23. Yes you r right, bees are best indicators of example of climatic change. Their disappearance is indicating global warming.

  24. yes i am very concerned about the honey bees declining as bee serve a great ecologically balance in the world and if all the bee's died in the world we all would have 3-6 years, at my college i have decided to study bees and they colony collapse disorder which seems to be one of the reasons that they are declining

  25. nope.. now you dont get stung :)

  26. Yes I am. An ice cream company was in the news about the missing bees not pollinating, possibly making some of their flavors obsolete. The missing bees are at a critical point in some other countries.

As others have said bees are much needed  for us to have fruit and vegetables.
