Question:

Are you familiar with Costco's membership & return policy?

I'm NOT a member, but I was told I could get a one-day guest membership from my Costco-member friend. The reason I'm going is because there is a laptop I would like to buy at Costco using my own Visa card. SO, if I buy the laptop without a full membership does that void any return benefits on the laptop???

It sounds like a silly situation, but I really have no need for a Costco membership otherwise. I'm single and don't buy in bulk & hate lines.

  1. You don't even need to bother getting the guest membership. You can show up with your friend, who can get you in with his or her card. You can pay using your own credit card, but remember that unless it's ATM/Debit, the only credit card they accept is American Express.

Costco has an insanely generous return policy, and will give you no hassel. My TV went out after two years, and I asked them if they could get me the information on the warranty. Rather than doing that, they just gave me a new TV that was the same size and slightly nicer.

You might want to rethink the membership if you buy a lot of books, DVDs and video games. They can save you quite a bit. I too am a bachelor in a small space. The money I save on Costco gas in a year justifies the membership for me. I almost never buy groceries there unless it's for a party or booze. The clothes and power tools there are a good price too.

  2. Costco does not accept any credit card  except AMEX in their stores. Your friend could order the laptop online and use your Visa card there. I have found that Costco may not be the least expensive place to buy a laptop but they do have a good return policy.
