  1. No.

  2. nope . i dint do anything extra either ... alhamdulillah!

its authenticity is not confirmed by the quran or hadith .

the hadith that talks about it is daeef(weak)

the well-known Saudi scholar, Sheikh ibn `Uthaymeen :

“What is correct is that fasting on the 15th of Sha`ban or specifying it with reciting (the Qur'an) or making (particular) supplications on that day has no basis. So that day is like any other 15th day of other months. Something that is clear is that it has been made permissible for a person to fast on the 13th, 14th, and 15th of every month. However, Sha`ban is somehow special (except for Ramadan) in the sense that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to fast more in the month of Sha`ban than any other month. So he used to either fast all of Sha`ban or just a little.

Therefore, as long as it does not involve any hardship, one can increase his fasting days during Sha`ban, emulating the example of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.”

the above extract was from here - http://www.afghanforums.com/showthread.p...

well known islamic site (islamqa) link on laylatul baraath- http://www.islamqa.com/en/ref/11086

so sister, you may fast or pray on the 'so -called "laylatul baraath" as you fast on other days and not with the intention of getting reward for the 15th of shaban in particular as it has no basis.

    edit:

surah ad -dukhan ,verse 3 :

we have sent it(quran) down on the blessed night*.......

VERSE 4 : therein(that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments**

    * we all know that the quran was revealed in the month of ramadan . so this night has to be layl atul qadr.

** this is the very next verse .therefore the "night" in question is "laylatul qadr" and not " laylatul baraath" .the decending of the predordainments (from the lauh-al mahfuz )for the whole year is definitely not in shaban.

pls.correct me if am wrong .this is what i understood from these verses

  3. Oh. I didn't know today, we could fast. I didn't know at all. But anyways, even if I did, I can't because I'm on my period.

Faraz- Thank you for the clarification.

  6. I don't know. Most of my family fast during this day and recite the Qur'an a lot, but I have heard others calling this Bid'ah or an innovation, so I'm not really sure. My parents really don't bug me with it. I really have research stuff before I can be sure if it's okay to do.

Edit adnan= on the night of Shab-E-Barat Allah writes the destinies of all men for the coming year by taking into account the deeds committed by them in the past.

The night of Shab-E-Barat also commemorates the entry of Muhammad into the city of Mecca. However, Shia Muslims associate this night with the birth of their last Imam.
