  1. The Sci-fi version of UFO Hunters is a spin off of sorts their hit Ghost Hunters. The History channel version is a spin off of a show of theirs called UFO Files. I'll be watching Sci-fi channel's version tonight and History channel's version in a repeat later on.

    EXTRA INFO:

No they are two separate shows with different producers creators and cast. I think the History channel wanted a show that would benefit from the big interest in paranormal programming and since Ghost Hunters is the biggest of these shows they went with the UFO Hunters.

But the creators of Ghost Hunters wanted to expand on their franchise so their first spin off was Ghost Hunters International and now their version of UFO Hunters. Both shows have interesting premises.

  2. I watched the one on sci fi...

I didn't really like it. I guess I am just used to ghost hunters... it seemed like on ufo hunters they went more on feelings than taps does...

but it was very very nice to watch

  3. Yeah I'm going to see what it is all about , Curiosity strikes the best of us :)

  4. I didn't see it Denie.  Were there any revelations worthy of passing on, or was it--as usual--nothing more than the typical format:

1.) Provide evidence supporting the claim (17 minutes)

2.) Counter with token skepticism, for "balance" (30 seconds)

3.) Conclude with vaguely-worded, speculative, "It could be..." language.  (1 minute)

It seems most paranormal shows follow this format.  It allows them to create a show out of questionable evidence and act as if the claim is valid.  Then at the end they make a "you decide" disclaimer to absolve them from any sort of conclusion you may come to.  This format is lazy.  It clears the producers of any educational duty or journalistic responsibility.

It reminds me of a UFO show where a several people described what they saw.  I was practically screaming, "It was a stealth bomber, you idiots!" five minutes into the program.  The "investigators" seemed to be willing to acknowledge every possibility except the most obvious one, leading me to believe the show was intended to preach to the choir.

I'm not saying "UFO Hunters" is like that, but I wouldn't be surprised.

  5. I watched the history channel version tonight. I enjoyed most the show. They gathered experts in different fields to conduct tests and offer expert analysis. In fact they gathered so many I suspect that the last show of the season will have funding only for the national 5th grade science fair winner as their expert guest ;)

There were some holes in the episode, they investigated the Puget Sound UFO incident that happened about 2 weeks before Roswell. They looked for material, tested some, looked for the crashed plane (found some of it), etc.

However, while both pilots died in this crash two people survived (parachuted out) and they failed to interview (perhaps they are dead) or look at the report that they were certainly required to file after a military crash.

They did attempt to bring main stream science into the investigation and perhaps if this continues and improves the show will be of real value to amateur UFO researchers in learning how to apply science to investigations.

They did speculate on a little too much for my taste without making it clear that is was a possibility but not what actually happened. They did at the end though say it was still inconclusive.
