Yep, so much for another civil liberty, so much for the rule of law and the constitution, the 4th Amendment.

Phone companies illegally wiretapped us as far back as FEB 2001 (before 911) and we are going to grant them immunity for breaking the law. Not only is it okay to break the law now, we'll change it, but we'll go ahead and retroactively give them immunity so all those lawsuits out there are thrown out. Our Congress Rocks!

And, the kicker? Only ONE Republican voted against it with 128 Democrats.

It's highly doubtful the Senate will vote for the people.

  1. No way... seriously?

  2. If the government wants to listen in on my conversations about my menopausal symptoms, hysterectomy, and GYN problems and how I can't stand men anymore, they are more than welcome.  We don't have to have Bush much longer guys.  Hopefully, we won't get someone who is worse!

  3. To zanadoo88;

    Thats like saying it has to go to the grand jury first, like the grand jury FISA will allow 99% of the government wishes, call it what you want it is a chipping away of our civil liberties

  4. This bill seems like an improvement to the status quo. It sets up a process to deal with lawsuits for the telecom companies, who really shouldn't be sued. They aren't in a position to stand up to the federal government. It also

        * Require FISA court permission to wiretap Americans who are overseas;

        * Allow the FISA court 30 days to review existing but expiring surveillance orders before renewing them;

        * Prohibit the government from invoking war powers or other authorities to superseding surveillance rules in the future.
