Are you insulted by the term computer geek?

I've noticed over time that more and more, people in the IT industry are called geeks. I personally find it offensive and very insulting, does anybody share this view or is this just becoming somewhat of a standard term?

  2. A lot of people are proud to be called geeks.  Many like to refer to themselves as geeks.

  3. I really don't get offended by the words of ignorant people because I know that I am above them.

  4. Not at all. I call myself a geek unashamedly, as I use the title to encourage people to come to me online for help regarding Linux. If I am able to assist I will.

  6. Exactly what you said. Anyone that works on/fixing/programming computers nowadays are called geeks. I think it's actually more of a compliment than an insult.

    Different would be, when you are called a computer jerk or freek

    Those are insulting, geek is a new word and is nice.

  9. no its just a slang ... no harmful insults given ...i think most comp geeks are cool with it ...  

  10. If I could be considered one, that would actually be kind of cool because it's nice when others need my help. In a sense, it makes one feel wanted.
